With 18 fences to be jumped this gives National Hunt fans a chance to see some of the top chasers back on the track during this early part of the NH season, and can often provide an excellent pointer to the main jumps festivals later that season.

CHARLIE HALL CHASE FREE HORSE RACING TIP: A cracking-looking renewal with several Hennessy Gold Cup, King George VI Chase, Cheltenham Gold Cup and Aintree Grand National hopefuls lining-up. Wetherby racegoers will have the pleasure of seeing last season’s Grand National hero – Many Clouds – back on the track and having won first time out for the past two seasons then everything points to a big run. That said, he does have to give weight away to some top horses, so you wonder just how hard a race he’ll have with other targets on the horizon later in the season. Looking at the trends then Oliver Sherwood’s 8 year-old certainly ticks a lot of the key stats and being a previous winner at Wetherby over fences then we also know the horse handles the track. Any further rain at the course would be a plus too. Some punters might, however, feel that Grand National win would have left its mark, like it has done with a lot of recent winners of the Merseyside Marathon but this horse is still only 8 years-old and was arguably one of the classer winners of that race in recent years so there should be more to come. Of the rest, it still amazes me that Cue Card is only 9 years-old as it seems like he’s been around for ages. On his day he’d be hard to beat getting 10lbs from the likes of Many Clouds, Menorah (last year’s winner) and Sam Winner, but has not won since 2013 and might just be on a slight downward spiral now. The Pipe team won this in 2006 with Our Vic and at this stage have two leading chances entered in Dynaste and Ballynagour. Both get weight from those at the top of the card and rate big players. MENORAH (Bet here with BET365) took the prize in 2014 first time out so clearly goes well fresh and with the Hobbs team going great guns at the moment then he looks a cracking e/w option in a race he’s won before.
