2016 SkyBet Chase Betting Trends and Tips

2016 SkyBet Chase Betting Trends and Tips Staged at Doncaster racecourse the Skybet Chase (formerly known as the Great Yorkshire Chase) is a Listed Handicap run over 3m. The race can often throw up some Grand National clues, although no winner in the last 10 runnings has gone onto win the Aintree marathon.

In recent years the Paul Nicholls and Pipe stables have dominated the race with two wins a-piece since 2003, while in the last 10 runnings we’ve seen two winning favourite.

Here at ThatsBettingTips we look back at recent winners of the SkyBet Chase (note, the 2010 and 2011 runnings were abandoned) and gives you the key stats to take into the 2016 renewal – this year being run on Saturday 30th January.

FREE HORSE RACING TIP – The Paul Nicholls yard often do well in this race so anything they send to post should be noted – at this stage they’ve got Black Thunder, Le Mercurey and Rocky Creek entered. We’ve seen two of the last five favourites land the spoils, while 3 of the last 5 renewals have been won by a 7 year-old.

If we apply these trends to the final runners then this should help narrow down this competitive field, but at this stage the Rebecca Curtis-trained IRISH CAVALIER (e/w) (Bet here at 14/1 with Skybet) does tick plenty of boxes. Yes, 11-7 is not 100% ideal, but this 7 year-old fits most of the other key trends, like recent form (unplaced last time), winning between 0-3 times over fences, age and breeding.

This horse has been highly-tried of late – most notably when running in the Grade One King George on Boxing Day so will find this company a great deal easier. The time before that he was beaten just over 6 lengths in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham. Connections have given him plenty of time to get over that last run, while providing he can save a bit for the finish then is worth another try over this 3m trip.

Of the rest, COOLOGUE (e/w) (Bet here at 14/1 with Betway) is another 7 year-old in the field, but hails from the out-of-form Charlie Longsdon team. On a plus, he’s lightly-raced and has run two solid races here at Doncaster in the past. He also gets in here with a light-weight and this good stable have to turn things around at some point!
