Coral-Eclipse (British Champion Series) (Group 1) – 3.50 Sandown Saturday 6th July

Al Kazeem (15/8 with Sporting Bet) has been a revelation this season landing three wins from as many starts, two of them being Group 1’s. He proved too strong for Camelot in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and wore down the game Mukhadram at Royal Ascot to win cosily. He is fully deserving of his place at the head of the leaderboard and although he has several new rivals to deal with he is the one to beat especially given his current form. A winner over this course and distance in his seasonal reappearance in the Group 3 Gordon Richard Stakes, conditions should be ideal and his current price could well look massive come the off.

Declaration Of War (4/1 with Bet Victor) was very well backed before disappointing in the Lockinge earlier in the season, but bounced back to form with a taking success in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Main market rival that day Animal Kingdom ran no sort of race and whilst he was an impressive winner the value of that form looks a little shaky. Connections obviously hold him in high regard and you suspect we may not have seen the best from him yet; a career best is needed here if he wants to topple Al Kazeem.

MARS (11/2 with Betfred) also represents Aiden O’Brien and he has been mixing it with the best 3 year old colts around this season. He finished 6th in both the Guineas and the Derby, before chasing home Dawn Approach and Toronado at Ascot on his latest start. Still lightly raced, this trip could prove ideal for him and his form with the likes of Dawn Approach arguably betters that of Declaration Of War’s Queen Anne win. Receives weigh all around and up against the older colts and fillies he needs to continue on his progressive curve, but it would be no surprise to see him give Al Kazeem the biggest test in a first time hood.

Mukhadram (8/1 with Bet Victor) was given a brilliant front running ride by Paul Hanagan at Ascot and almost slipped away from the field, but for AL Kazeem’s late charge he may well have had a Group 1 success to his name. Likely to employ similar tactics here and whilst he is a solid performer who should run his race he is not likely to be able to repeat the trick and may find a couple too good.

The Fugue (9/2 with Paddy Power) is a high class filly who is incredibly consistent at the highest level. She made a pleasing reappearance behind AL Kazeem at Ascot when staying on well late on and she ought to come on for that outing. She looks sure to be in with a chance given her consistent profile and although on official figures she has a bit to find with some of these you would expect her to run a good race. She is a relatively short price but you will get a run for your money and a race such as this may well drop her way this season.

Pastorious (12/1 with Ladbrokes) is the foreign raider in the field and he needs to bounce back from a poor last run when he was well beaten in Hong Kong. He did have excuses that day and connections are reporting him to be in good form ahead of the race. A Group 1 winner in April, he ran well on his last visit to England when 4th behind Frankel at Royal Ascot and he cannot be completely discounted; whether he is good enough to however is doubtful and he will need to be right at the top of his game to have any chance

Miblish (100/1 with Bet Victor) is a fair performer in his own right but looks up against it in this company. He is held on form by several of his rivals after finishing Al Kazeem, Mukhadram and The Fugue at Ascot and it is hard to see him reversing that form.
