With a field of 12 runners I had hoped BASATEEN (9/4 Coral) would have been a slightly bigger price but then again this son of Teofilo could hardly have been any more impressive when hacking up by no less than eight lengths at Doncaster to take his maiden.  The fourth has gone on to win since franking the form, but the third was out with the washing at Pontefract so I am not completely convinced by the strength of the form.  Nonetheless, the selection holds all the fancy Group One entries later in the season and should run well here.

We can all see that the Derby runner-up Kingston Hill has the best form in the race by far but at the prices I prefer the chances of a place at least for Aiden O’Brien’s lightly raced son of Galileo – GRANDDUKEOFTUSCANY (13/2 William Hill).  After a gentle introduction, when a well beaten sixth in a Curragh maiden, he began to work like a dream at home and was duly sent off favourite next time out at Tipperary.  Favourite backers were never in any doubt as he ran away with that minor event by 19 lengths eased up and I am told he is working even better at Ballydoyle since that contest! 

4.55 York

20 runner nurseries are normally to be avoided like the plague yet I am drawn to the Karl Burke trained FELIX LEITER (6/1 Betfred) who won easily last time out at Nottingham and could go well here carrying a 6lb penalty.  He is sure to gain a further rise once the handicapper gets to him so we know he will be trying flat out to take this valuable prize today, and he looks solid each-way bet.
