The Patriots visit the Broncos where the winner will go to the Super Bowl in New York City. These two teams met back in November in New England. The Patriots made a historic comeback on that night, erasing a 24-0 halftime deficit and winning the game deep into overtime, 34-31. That game closed at a pick. Today, the Broncos are favored by 5.5 points. Of the Patriots four losses this year, only one was by 6 points or more. Even when the Patriots lose, they always make the game competitive, so I think this number favors the Patriots.

The Broncos have a high powered attack as Quarterback Peyton Manning has 5 reliable receivers to throw the ball to. To be competitive against Denver, a defense needs to have a complete defensive backfield with depth, and that is exactly what the Patriots have with four solid cornerbacks and two good safeties. Peyton Manning does not run very well himself so the Patriots can focus on stopping the passing game without devoting extra attention to the quarterback.

The Patriots have key defensive players out with injuries such as Nose Tackle Vince Wilfork and Middle Linebacker Jerod Mayo, but these players are not critical to stopping the passing game, and that is where Denver is so successful.

One thing that really stood out when looking at this game is Broncos Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio against Tom Brady. In his career against defenses coached by Del Rio, Brady is 7-0 with 17 Touchdowns and zero interceptions. I think the Patriots match up well with Denver and given that when they lose, it always tends to be a close game, I am taking the Patriots +5.5.
