Arkle 2015 expert tips

Cheltenham Festival 2015 day 1 tips and expert predictions for the 2.05pm Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham on Tuesday 10th March.

On a first day crammed with quality action, the Arkle Novices’ Chase is often one of the best races of the entire Festival.  2m novice chasers at full speed flying round Cheltenham is a sight to behold with the future firmly in mind for these promising racing prospects and we have picked out a big odds tip for the second Cheltenham Festival 2015 race on the card.

Arkle Trophy Expert Tips Cheltenham 2015.

Un De Sceaux has headed the market for quite some time now, strengthening his position with another brutal display of front running at the end of January.  There are some sizeable negatives to overcome however. No front runner has won the Arkle since 1980, while only one winner from the past 18 had previously fallen over fences.  As the Arkle betting odds suggest he is head and shoulders above this field on all known form but, at the current price, with a field of 8+ likely, finding an each-way betting tip for the Arkle looks a safer option, especially considering we’ll get the insurance of a refund if Un De Sceaux wins the race.

Vibrato Valtat is already a significantly better chaser than hurdler with three Grade wins this season to his credit.  He is looking significantly more straightforward over fences as well, finding more under pressure than had often been the norm.  His most recent success at Warwick in the Kingmaker was bloodless and he is a solid option against the favourite, but at 5/1 is too short for an each-way bet.

Josses Hill is somewhat of a forgotten horse having only won one of his three starts over fences to date.  Both of those were over 2m4f however and it's likely a strong run 2m is going to prove his optimum which he should certainly get here.  He got closest to Vautour in last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and is yet to finish outside the first two in nine career starts but his jumping will need to be significantly better to win the 2015 Arkle.

At a much bigger price the one who appeals most is THREE KINGDOMS (20/1 Paddy Power) for an each-way Arkle Trophy betting tip at Cheltenham.  He has only tasted defeat once in four chase starts this season when going down by half a length to Vibrato Valtat at Kempton over Christmas.  The Paul Nicholls’ charge was more impressive last time than Three Kingdoms, but with such a small margin separating the pair late last year, it's a surprise that there is such a difference in their respective prices.

Un De Sceaux is a clear form choice but any value has long gone and I'm quite happy to watch him at his current price.  Josses Hill has shown, at the Festival last year and when bolting up at Aintree, that he's a smart horse but his jumping could do with some brushing up.  In terms of a Cheltenham day 1 tip for the Arkle at 2.05pm, I can’t resist THREE KINGDOMS at the massive odds of 20/1 taking into account Paddy Power’s refund offer, not only on his Christmas effort but also when beating Vibrato Valtat a short head at Kempton in December 2013 when giving away half a stone in the handicap.  Both of those runs suggest he is a talented animal and he should be able to run into a place at least.
