Expert Cheltenham 2014 tips for Thursday 13th March and race preview for two races of day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival starting from 2.40pm
Day three is upon us already (we wait for what feels like an eternity and it just rushes by), and what a week so far, here are my tips for the penultimate day of the Festival.
For day three, my two best bets start with AL FEROF (9/2 Stan James) in the Ryanair Chase due off at 2.40pm. Finally, connections have acknowledged that he does NOT stay a truly run 3m, certainly not at the highest level, and that could yet be a blessing in disguise as they now focus on this easier race. With Cue Card absent this year’s renewal looks a lot more open and although the Nicholls yard are yet to have a Festival winner this year, I really hope that all changes here and in the following race as well!
BIG BUCK’S (3/1 bet365) was, without any doubt, the best staying hurdler of my lifetime yet the rest of the racing world seem so happy to write him off and I don’t know why? Yes, we did witness the youngsters seeing off he old guard in the Champion Hurdle and everyone seems to think that will be the case again via Annie Power in the World Hurdle, but my selection is simply over priced and I will happily take my fill. Having spoken to Paul Nicholls I can tell you that he needed his first run after time off via injury as you would expect and that the yard could not be happier with him since – he certainly looked a picture. With stamina doubts about the favourite (as Paul said, she looks to have plenty of speed), I am happy to put my heart before my head on this occasion and hope that the now 11 year-old can claim a fifth World Hurdle title in six years.
