Expert Cheltenham 2014 tips for Friday 14th March and race preview for two races of day 4 of the Cheltenham Festival starting from 2.40pm
All good things come to an end and so does the Cheltenham Festival for yet another year. There have been some incredible stories over the first three days and with the Gold Cup still yet to run, another great story could still be written! Here are my final two best bets for the Festival!
I've been interested in Briar Hill for a long while now. For many this horse represents the Irish banker for the entire meeting which says something after their earlier successes! Unbeaten in his last six races (amusingly, he was pulled up first time out in a point to point at Sligo), but he will be a stupidly short price today and isn’t the most natural of jumpers. With that in mind, I can’t resist a little wager on KINGS PALACE (4/1 Coral) (another David Pipe inmate), who was very impressive last time out and jumps slickly overall which could yet make all the difference. He is just about each way value (shop around for a quarter the odds) and we get our money back if he places – a free win bet if he scores.
As it's Gold Cup day, my second bet comes in the blue riband event and I am happy enough to side with BOBS WORTH (7/4 Betfred) to retain his crown. Silviniaco Conti is a serious rival who I toyed with the idea of, but the Paul Nicholls' yard doesn't seem to be in the best form across these four-days whereas the Nicky Henderson yard has had some good performances. Stamina is this horses' forte, and I gathered they have tactics to employ to make sure his rival's speed is more difficult to utilize. In what looks on paper to be a fascinating tactic contest, I back Barry Geraghty to come out on top.
