Middlesbrough v Leicester

In the two of the last three meetings played at the Riverside Stadium both teams have scored. Leicester had the fourth-best strike rate in the Championship last season, finding the net in 78% of the league matches they played.

Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield

In each of the last twelve meetings between these sides both teams have scored, and last season Huddersfield had the worst defensive record out of all the teams who survived relegation.

Millwall v Yeovil

The Lions were the second-lowest scorers in the Championship last season but with the addition of experienced striker Scott McDonald to their books, expect their goal threat to be a bit better this season. Yeovil could well turn out to be the league’s whipping boys but they should start in optimistic mood, and don’t be surprised to see them get a goal or two in their first match.

Walsall v Tranmere

Only Swindon and Bournemouth scored more goals on their own turf than Walsall last season, and whilst Tranmere were not exactly prolific in finding the net, they did average more than one goal per away match last season.

Rochdale v Hartlepool

Rochdale were League Two’s fourth-top scoring side last season and they start with a home fixture against Hartlepool who of course dropped down from League One. Pools will not find life easy in the bottom division but they ought to find the net in their opening match.
