Channel 4 Racing at Newcastle and Newmarket: Best Betting Tips For Saturday

Royal Ascot may be over but there is no lack of competitive racing this weekend, with the feature race on Channel 4 being the competitive Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. Here we take a look at today’s meetings live on Channel 4 and provide some free betting tips for today.

2.05 Newcastle – Betfred Chipchase Stakes (Group 3) 6f

E/W Selection: MASS RALLY @ 7/1 with William Hill

Jack Dexter is a worthy favourite and will take all the beating in this race but the horse most capable of giving him a race is the quirky MASS RALLY. On his day he is a smart performer and has form with the favourite, finishing just 1L behind him at Doncaster last season giving him 2lb. He has form in softer ground and also has a good record when reappearing quickly after a recent run. Usually a handicapper but this is not the strongest Group 3 in terms of depth and decent chance if at his best.

3.15 Newcastle – John Smith’s Northumberland Plate (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 2m19y

E/W Selection: BROCKWELL @ 33/1 with Bet Victor

This race is likely to very stamina sapping given the ground conditions and those near the foot of the handicap having less weight to carry could be the place to concentrate. The selection is a big price after only a moderate performance on his first start over this distance at Haydock last time out. He is bred to stay this trip and although some will take that performance as a sign he did not improve for the step up in trip, I think the ground was just too quick for him that day and he actually stuck to the task fairly well to come home in 4^th. He has winning form with cut in the ground and I think he will stay the trip so could run a good race at a big price.

3.30 Newmarket – bet365 Criterion Stakes (Group 3) 7f

Selection: PASTORAL PLAYER @ 3/1 with Bet Victor

The selection has been in good form of late without winning and looked unlucky not to do so last time out when just failing to get up in the dying strides after being held up. He can race keenly in the early part of the race but comes home to good effect late in the race and if he continues in the same vein as recent performances he can gain a deserved success today.
