Chelsea v Southampton Betting Tips and Predictions

The late game on Sunday sees Chelsea host high flying Southampton. Southampton have recently slipped up in their pursuit to secure themselves as a top team with a loss to Arsenal, whilst in Europe, Chelsea also stumbled away to Basel.

Since the return of Mourinho, many saw Chelsea as solid contenders with Man City saying that Jose can rejuvenate the team to challenge after a disappointing 12/13 campaign. That plan hasn’t exactly been reality. Chelsea looked great at the start of the season with a few good wins, but since then, their form has looked inconsistent. Loses to Everton and Newcastle plus draws against WBA and Tottenham currently see Chelsea 3rd in the league. The problem still seems to be up front for Chelsea. Bringing in Samuel Eto seemed to be a positive switch from Mourinho but he hasn’t really lived up to his own qualities. Another bewildering situation is the exclusion of the Spanish maestro Juan Mata. Mata hasn’t featured much at all in Jose’s plans and no one seems to know why! He was a fantastic talent last year and easily one of the most impressive players not just in the Premier League, but in Europe. This will be a very tough game for Chelsea and I believe their Brazilian playmaker Oscar will have a very good game. Anytime goal scorer would be my bet for Chelsea this Sunday.

Southampton have simply been a breath of fresh air this year for all football fans. Myself being an Arsenal fan, loves free flowing football and I believe Pochetino has introduced this to his Saints set up perfectly this season. Players like Lallana, James Ward-Prowse, Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schniederlin shows us that they don’t lack in creativity. This being said, they still have options on the bench with players like Gaston Ramirez and Danny Osvaldo, who are very good players, to introduce during any game and still have the flair to attack. Also the signing of Dejan Lovren is a big impact. He has been superb so far, commanding the defence and conceding the fewest goals in the Premier League.

My overall bet for this game would be either a Chelsea 2-1 win or a 1-1 draw between the two teams. Also the scorers, I’ve mentioned Oscar and the Southampton player has to either be Jay Rodriguez or Rickie Lambert.
