Chelsea v Stoke Betting Tips and Predictions

Comfortably mid-table Stoke travel down to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to salvage their faltering title charge and we have some free football betting tips.

When was the last time a Jose Mourinho team lost three matches in a row? I would be amazed if it has ever happened. That is what is at stake in this match however. After losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace last weekend. Chelsea followed that defeat up by losing 3-1 to PSG.

In the wake of the PSG game Mourinho described his teams defending as “ridiculous”. He wasn't wrong but you have got to wonder whether he was right to point this out.

Ever since the defeat to Sunderland in the League Cup and the goalless draw against Arsenal Mourinho has compensated for his sides lack of cutting edge by instilling a Teutonic defensive efficiency.

With the last two defeats it is reasonable to question whether Chelsea are approaching the limits of how far that approach can take them.

Stoke meanwhile have delivered a set of results in March that should make Mark Hughes manager of the month. They were undefeated in the month winning four and drawing one. This run of results has guaranteed Stoke's Premier League status and given the number of points between Stoke and the teams above them March has also effectively ended their season.

So this match features a title chasing Chelsea team with everything to play for against a mid-table side that have only picked up 10 points away from home this season.

With this in mind the odds are exactly where you would expect them to be. A Chelsea win is ¼ with Skybet. Whilst a draw is 9/2 and a Stoke win is a massive 12/1 with the same provider.

As tempting as 12/1 is I can't give Stoke a chance here at the same time though there is little upside in backing Chelsea to win outright at those odds.

Much in this game will depend on the team that Chelsea put out. They have got the second leg on the Champions League quarterfinal three days after the Stoke match. The temptation will be to rest the likes of Hazard and Willian. If this happens then I would be looking at there being under 2.5 goals in the match, which is available at evens with William Hill.

Given that Stoke are likely to sit deep and frustrate Chelsea you have got to think that Chelsea to score from a set piece is fairly likely. John Terry is a big threat from set pieces and despite what you might think of the man he is a leader on the pitch. The own goal against Palace and the defending for the defeat against PSG will have left him with a point to prove. Terry to score anytime is 8/1 with Betfred.

As a parting thought I expect Chelsea to find it difficult to break Stoke down. A draw at half time and Chelsea win at full time is 11/4 with Betfred.
