Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Expert Betting Tips

JLT Novices’ Chase

VAUTOUR (9/4 bet365) would be a lot of peoples’ best bets of the meeting and it's not hard to see why, with the JLT rapidly looking at most a four horse race.  He had a minor blip at Christmas but apart from that he has looked solid over fences and made a big impression when winning the Supreme last year.  His closest rival, Ptit Zig, arrives on the back of a fall which is hardly ideal preparation and has to prove his ability to handle genuinely good ground at this level.  Apache Stronghold and Valseur Lido are one apiece when meeting each other this season but both would need to improve on the bare form to beat the favourite.

Ryanair Chase

The big question here is the ability of DON COSSACK (7/2 William Hill) to act left handed.  He has won at Naas and Navan before, albeit at a lower level, but given the opposition I still can't shake the feeling he would be half the price if trained elsewhere in Ireland.  I'm not convinced this will be enough of a stamina test for Ma Filleule, Balder Success is yet to complete at Prestbury while John's Spirit has tended to show his best form in the Autumn.  I can see the likes of Taquin Du Seuil and Eduard challenging for the minor money and they might be e/w options.

World Hurdle

The absence of More Of That leaves this race wide open with 5/1 available about the top three in the market.  It's possible that Annie Power may get re-routed here but the Mares Hurdle is a more sensible option.  The rest look much of a muchness: Saphir Du Rheu won here in January beating Un Temps Pour Tout who should finish closer with that run under his belt, Rock On Ruby has his stamina to prove while Zarkandar looks increasingly quirky.  JETSON (E/W) (20/1 Betfred) has twice seen the back of Lieutenant Colonel this season and is far more exposed but has run well at two previous festivals and may just outrun his price.
