Cheltenham Festival ante-post handicap betting tips for Day 4
The final day of the Cheltenham Festival and a last chance to savour the atmosphere and try to find winners in the devilishly difficult handicaps!
Handicap Betting Tips Cheltenham Festival
Normally run at a heck of a clip the County is one of the most demanding races at the Festival. If you don't travel or don't stay you are doomed in an often brutal race. CALIPTO (E/W) (12/1 Betfred) still appears to be nicely handicapped having run well first time back from a break in the Betfair Hurdle. He was comfortably the best finisher of those held up in a race which heavily favoured those on the sharp end. That was his first run since October so is certainly entitled to strip fitter for that. He had a breathing operation while he was absent which can pay dividends here for this young and unexposed sort.
The closing race of the Festival and a last gasp chance to find a winner for anyone who had struggled during the week. Novices have a decent record in the race so it is in that vein that we put up GRUMETI (E/W) (25/1 Ladbrokes). He is admittedly exposed for a novice and hasn't shown his absolute best for a couple of years but, for a horse once rated 153 over hurdles, an opening handicap mark over fences of 141 is certainly workable. He beat solid yardstick, Chris Pea Green, at Plumpton and only got beaten less than four lengths by the Arkle second favourite at Warwick when trying to give that horse five pounds. He resented the cheekpieces last time so hopefully they will be left off now for a race where the end to end gallop should suit.
