Coventry City v Cardiff City Betting Tips and Predictions

Round one of the Capital One League Cup comes to an end this Wednesday at 19.45 on Sky Sports as recently relegated Cardiff City travel to Sixfields Stadium to face League One's Coventry and we have some free football betting tips.

The big question here for the punters is do we have a cup upset on our hands. Cardiff are in the Championship now after suffering relegation last year and look set to make wholesale changes from the opening day draw to Blackburn. Whilst cash-strapped League One Coventry will look to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat to Bradford and kick start their season.

The bookies see this tie as fairly open. Coventry are favourites and are available at 21/20 with Ladbrokes although they are priced up as short as evens.  Cardiff are outsiders at 11/4 with bet365 and the draw is priced up at 5/2 with William Hill.

Now I can see why Cardiff are such long shots. The League Cup isn't going to be their priority and there are questions over the side they are going to play. Cardiff boss Solksjaer has ruled out the attacking talents of  Federico Macheda, Javi Guerra, Peter Whittingham and Kagisho Dikgacoi and has admitted that he is going to treat the game as an opportunity to get players match fit with fringe squad members like Magnus Eikrem, Joe Ralls, Kim Bo-Kyung, Declan John and Simon Moore all set to play.

It is for this reason that Cardiff are available at such long odds. Before writing Cardiff off though it is important to remember that these “fringe” players would all make it into the Coventry side. Furthermore, the stadium is hardly likely to be an intimidating atmosphere.  Coventry are playing up at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton as they still can't play at the Ricoh. The fans are understandably upset about this and will be holding a protest in game. Add all this to the fact the match is on Sky and it is unlikely to be a sellout. Cardiff to win at 11/4 is too good to not take a punt on.

I am not without a romantic bone in my body though Coventry and manager Steven Pressley's teams play an attacking brand of football. Last season Coventry scored the fourth highest amount of goals in League One and conceded more than all but three teams. Given the 3-2 defeat to Bradford at the weekend this attacking spirit looks set to continue. If the Sky Blues are going to win the chances are there will be goals. Bet365 are offering Coventry to win and both teams to score at 5/1. At that those odds Coventry are worth a punt.

An even better bet through would be over 2.5 goals and both teams to score which bet365 have priced up at evens. I can't see either side keeping a cleansheet and if both teams score than over 2.5 goals isn't far off.
