2.30 Goodwood

The Molecomb Stakes has been won by some average horses in the last few seasons, however I think that BEACON (10/11 bet365) looks a really special horse. He was beaten on debut at Doncaster, however he has yet to loose since that effort and has come on leaps and bounds. His latest win was by far the most eye-catching as he romped home in a Listed race at Sandown earlier this month. The two-year-old showed an excellent turn of foot to destroy the field and it’s more than likely that he will improve again. His trainer Richard Hannon Jnr’s father was a master at training winners at Goodwood and his son will likely emulate his efforts alongside the master jockey – Richard Hughes.

Another pairing who know Goodwood well are Mark Johnston and Paul Hanagan, who team up with Mukmal. He showed a lot of early promise in the season, however he finished some four lengths behind the selection last time out and will have to improve dramatically if he is to overturn that form.

3.05 Goodwood

With a Hannon double on the cards, TOORMORE (2/1 Betfred) looks a class above his rivals in the Lennox Stakes. He finished last season as the champion two-year-old and returned this season with a good victory in the Craven Stakes before going on to run well in the 2000 Guineas the St James’ Palace. He gets a very welcomed age-for-weight allowance and has solid form over course and distance. From what I’ve seen from Toormore, he is not a classy colt, but a horse who puts in workman like performances. He should find conditions to be ideal and the pairing of Hannon and Hughes adds a lot of confidence.

Glory Awaits represents the each-way value in this race. After a long lay-off he was just five-lengths behind Toronado at Royal Ascot and then went on to win at Chester when dropped in class. I’m a firm believer that horses who win at Chester gain a great deal of confidence and experience given the unique track and Kevin Ryan’s charge could well come on for the win.
