One of the biggest handicap races of the season takes place at York on Saturday. The Ebor Handicap is always a fiercely contested race and this year will be no different; here we provide a best ante-post tip for the race
CARAVAN ROLLS ON (14/1 with Betfred) has been running well all season in competitive handicaps and shapes as if there is still more to come from him. He won on his seasonal reappearance as a 4 year old off a mark of 89 at Newmarket, travelling strongly and staying on well inside the final furlong to win cosily by a length. He backed that performance up with a solid run in the Mallard when he finished a close 5th behind Sir Graham Wade and that turned out to be his only 2 runs of the season. He has already had three runs this time around and has ran well on all occasions.
He finished 4th behind Tiger Cliff on his first start of the season noticeably finishing his race off well under a hold up ride. He then ran respectably behind Opinion in the Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot, sticking to the task well despite being hampered and giving the impression that there was a race of this nature in him. He was narrowly foiled by Silver Lime last time out carrying 10-0 but again finished his race off well and looks as if he is still on the upgrade. He has only risen 2lb in the weights for all those efforts and is better off at the weights with the likes of Opinion and Silver Lime from recent encounters.
He is likely to have a nice racing weight and his style of racing should suit this race and track well. He looks feasibly weighted and although he will need things to drop right for him it seems unlikely we have seen the best of him yet. He is unraced on soft ground so if rain did arrive that would be an unknown; however he is a strong stayer and as things stand he looks to hold solid claims.
