Editors Golf Betting Tips- BMW PGA & Crowne Plaza 2014

Editors Golf Betting Tips- BMW PGA Championship 2014 & Crowne Plaza Invitational 2014 – After a fine couple of events last week in Spain and Texas, it is two more this week from Wentworth, England and Colonial in Texas; one article for two events this week, enjoy.

Despite the fact the courses are separated by the Atlantic Ocean and set up very differently they do hold something particular in common, they are both horses for courses tracks, year after year the same players rack up the top 10’s in these two events.

Excellent deal from Betfred this week – If an Englishman wins (I feel this is likely, see tips below) if your player finishes second get a full refund of your stake up to £50!  Combine this with the £25 free bet on sign up and things are looking good – Sign up here=  Open a new Betfred account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet refund if your player finishes second to an Englishman.

Event – BMW PGA Championship 2014

First to the European tour flagship event at Wentworth, with a significant re-design by Ernie Els a few years ago now bedding in, Wentworth will once again provide a fine test for Europe’s very best, all the European big guns are in attendance to compete for both the prestigious title and some vital World Ranking / Ryder Cup points!  Measuring 7,302 yards this fantastic course now suits the players who can plot there way round the golf course, GIR, scrambling and putting take precedence over either accuracy or power from the tee, recent winners Khan, Donald (twice) and Manaserro have all excelled at least one of these categories in their wins.  To be honest, with course form carrying such a high weight for selections this week, I have (for once) concentrated less on the recent statistical match and gone for the course specialists, in both events.

The Weather does not look great with rain predicted throughout the event, and potential 20 mph winds on the Thursday.

Selections

Luke Donald- Win 14/1- Betfred- Open a new Betfred account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Winner here in 2011 and 2012 and three top 10’s in his last 7 outings, Donald has been remodelling his swing to make it more consistent and the results are coming slowly but surely.  Returning form and the return to a fruitful hunting ground, this should be the perfect time for those changes to bed in and with his ever reliable short game still in place, tough not to back him for the win here.

Justin Rose- Win 14/1- William Hill- Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Injury wrecked the first couple of months of Rose’s season but he comes into this event on a run of 3 consecutive Top 10 finishes, like Donald has fine form here finishing runner up to Luke in 2012 and had another runners up finish in 2007.  His short game has still looked sharp since his return, the injury is behind him and all is well with the reigning US Open champion as he heads into his title defence in just a few weeks.

Miguel Angel Jimenez- Win 33/1- Ladbrokes- Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!

Not sure how Jimenez continues to defy the odds, winning last week in his home open at the age of 50!  Winner here in 2008, 4th last year and a host of other fine performances at Wentworth, probably still celebrating his win, will most likely will have a day off (with several bottles of wine and cigars), drive to Wentworth in a Ferrari, have a cigar, do his mad warm up routine, have a cigar and then show the youngsters how to play again this week.  Can’t ignore him on current/course form and at 33/1 carries a nice price.

Matteo Manaserro- Win 50/1- Bet365- Open a new Bet365 account and receive a 100% deposit bonus up to £200!

Erratic form from Manaserro to date this year, but always tends to go well here with 3 top 20’2 over the last 3 years including his impressive victory last year.  In the same mould as the three players above, consistent/accurate iron player who can plot his way round the course and has a wonderful short game when he is in form.

Branden Grace- EW 125/1- Betfred- Open a new Betfred account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Definitely a different type of player from my other selections but Grace has good form at Wentworth, finishing 24th last year and 5th the year before.  Was in horrid form before his recent break, racking up 4 consecutive missed cuts, but 6 week layoff should have done him the world of good, as like most of the South African players he plays frequently in the winter months to support his home tour.  A flyer here, but if he can hold it together in rounds 1&2 and work out any rust, he might just sneak us a place come Sunday night.

Event – Crowne Plaza Invitational from Colonial 2014

Now across to Texas, Colonial has been used for a tour event every year since 1946, and the combination of tight fairways and doglegs make the Par 70, 7,204 yard course just as challenging as is was back then.  Newly crowned world number 1 – Adam Scott plays after adding this event to his schedule, no doubt looking to put in a high class performance to celebrate his new No 1 status.  With poor course form here Adam will not be making my selections this week.  Previous winners here have displayed similar attributes as recent Wentworth winners; but you should certainly add driving accuracy to your wish list of credentials for this event, 3 of the past 4 winners have ranked Top 10 in driving accuracy for the week (Zach Johnson’s win in 2012 the exception).

Weather looks warm and rain free for the 4 days, with a steady 10-15 mph breeze throughout.

Selections-

Zach Johnson- 16/1 Win- Coral- Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!

Incredibly he has not been outside the Top 10 in this event in the last five years, has won twice in that period in 2010 and 2012, gone off the boil a little in recent months but rested last week and I expect him to be right at the sharp end of things come Sunday.  No mystery as to why he performs so well here, excellent putter and scrambler and a very consistent accurate ball striker, length is not a problem at this course so no reason for him not to challenge yet again.

Jim Furyk- 18/1 Win- Coral- Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!

Furyk has done everything but win here, 4 top 10’s in the last 10 years and runner up to Rory Sabbatini in 2007, has finished runner up in his last 2 events and had two other top 10’s in his 3 events before that.  Like Johnson he has a well balanced game allowing him to grind down any course, would be nice to see him return to the winners circle and form wise he is the hot player on tour.

Jordan Spieth- 18/1 Win- Coral- Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!

Another victory must surely be on its way for this young superstar, tailed off to finish 37th last week, but I think the 2 rounds he played without being right in contention might help him to recuperate after contending so consistently in recent events, particularly at the Players Championship.  Finished 7th on debut here last year so clearly enjoys the course and it would be a surprise to see anything other than another top 10 minimum this week.

John Huh- 55/1 EW- Bet365- Open a new Bet365 account and receive a 100% deposit bonus up to £200!

Nice to see Huh returning to form in time for this event, with a fine 16th place finish last week when his fantastic ball striking returned as he finished 2rd in GIR, he puts well on this course – finishing 16th in putting in 2013 and 23rd in 2012 while posting finishes of 11th and 5th respectively.  Has just one win on tour in 2012 Mayakoba, so happy to go Each way on Huh who has the game for this course and looks to be peaking at the right time.

Boo Weekley- 60/1 Win- Bet365- Open a new Bet365 account and receive a 100% deposit bonus up to £200!

Yep, I’m going 'win only' on Boo at 60/1, he has just 3 wins on tour but won back to back at the Heritage and has the form to repeat the trick this week here, also he only has 2 runner up and 2 third place finishes on tour, so if he gets in contention he can convert.  Like Huh above his ball striking was excellent last week finishing 6th in GIR, but a more impressive 2nd in scrambling, his putting will have to be sharper (56th last week) but I like the symmetry of him going for back to back course victories as he managed at Harbour town and we should be able to rely on his impeccable ball striking.

Best of luck everyone.
