The Eclipse Stakes is one of the premier Group 1's during the season and it's that time again as Sandown shares Channel 4 coverage this week with Haydock.

2.05 Sandown

Stepper Point, Ahtoug and Steps contested the Kings Stand finishing in that order. Steps has the draw closest to the rail here but will need plenty of luck in running from there. Stepper Point should go well from the front but doesn't get home in front often while Ahtoug may have needed the run but this could possibly come too soon. A sentimental chance is given to KINGSGATE NATIVE who looked as good as ever on his return with a stiff 5f ideal.

2.20 Haydock

A sprint to begin the Haydock coverage where JUSTICE DAY can land a blow for the three year-olds. This is considerably easier than the races he has contested of late and despite the penalty he can take advantage. Complicate also has a penalty to shoulder but any cut in the ground will suit and in a relatively weak field he can prove the biggest danger.

2.40 Sandown

Snowboarder is just 1lb higher than when winning at Newmarket last July but hadn't looked the same horse in better company since. St Moritz is still some way below his best mark and is in great form having run a corker over C&D last time but the vote goes to RUSSIAN REALM who had to tack across a long way when poorly drawn at Ascot and can make amends.

2.55 Haydock

A wide open Group 2 next up with Charity Line and Pomology both worth watching for clues in the market returning from long absences while Sultanina is interesting back over C&D having overcome greeness last time to triumph. Talent has been disappointing in the main since winning the Oaks so, providing there is sufficient cut in the ground, this is best left to SEAL OF APPROVAL who ran really well in a stronger race than this on her return.

3.15 Sandown

Another race confined to the fairer sex where QUEEN CATRINE can make amends for an ill judged ride at the Royal meeting where she was by far the best horse in the contest. Radiator looks the main threat stepping down from Group 1 company where she was far from disgraced but the vote goes to Charlie Hills daughter of Acclamation.

3.30 Haydock

Fattsota and Pallasator are both worth watching in the market in this ultra competitive handicap returning from long absences. There shouldn't be too much between Dashing Star and Havana Cooler on their Ascot run despite the differences in the market. The tip however goes to MIGHTY YAR who wasn't seen at his best at Newmarket in a race that turned into a sprint. He can resume his progress at a decent price.

3.50 Sandown

This looks to be one of the classiest renewals of the Eclipse providing the weather doesn't cause absentees. Mukhadram wasn't seen to best effect when not leading at Ascot, and he will be dangerous at a price if getting his own way in front. The Fugue is as likely a winner as any on quick ground while rain would bring Kingston Hill into play. Verrazano is interesting stepping up in trip, he seems to be getting to grips with European racing and might find this test exactly what he needs. NIGHT OF THUNDER though is among the best of his generation and can strike a blow for the three year-olds with the step up in trip expected to suit.
