Farhh features amongst 13 for Saturday’s JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury

The mile division looks wide open this year after the retirement of the unbeaten Frankel and Newbury stages the first opportunity for Group 1 glory this season.

Farhh (10/3 with Coral) chased home Frankel twice last season including in the Group 1 Juddmonte International and was also runner-up behind Nathaniel in the Coral-Eclipse. He has yet to secure a Group 1 success, narrowly being denied in the Prix Du Moulin when last seen and his connections will be hoping he will finally get his head in front this season

Frankel will be sorely missed this season but his owner Prince Khalid Abdulla has a smart miler in his own right in the form of Cityscape (4/1 with Betfred), winner of Dubai Duty Free last season. He finished second in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes behind Excelebration last season, who is also now retired, and he is likely to be campaigned on home turf in contrast to his worldwide campaign previously.

Aidan O'Brien has two entries with the progressive Declaration Of War (7/2 with Coral) a leading contender. A Group 3 winner, he took a Listed contest on his seasonal reappearance looks worth his place in this higher grade. Reply (66/1 with Coral) may well take up pace-making duties for him. Fencing (8/1 with William Hill) was also a Listed winner on his seasonal reappearance and he could represent champion trainer John Gosden.

Beauty Parlour (8/1 with William Hill) was the winner of the French 1000 Guineas last season but disappointed on her first start for Henry Cecil when sent off a warm favourite in the Group 1 Sun Chariot. A better showing from her would prove no surprise on her return. The 13 runner field is completed by the likes of Trumpet Major (10/1 with Coral) and Libranno (50/1 with Coral) for Richard Hannon, Aljamaheer (14/1 with Coral) for Roger Varian and German raider Amaron (33/1 with Betfred), a Group 1 winner in Italy last season. Chill The Kite (40/1 with Coral), Penitent (20/1 with Coral) and Sovereign Debt (33/1 with Coral) complete the declarations.
