Football Accumulator Tip this Week

Remember; with Under/Over goals bets, extra time does not count!

Fulham vs. Sunderland – Under 2.5 goals

These two teams played out a 0-0 draw at The Stadium of Light courtesy of a fantastic double stop from the Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli. Apart from this, Sunderland rarely threatened Fulham’s goal and Hugo Rodellega almost snatched victory when he hit the post late on for the visitors.  Sunderland’s tally of 3 goals in their last 5 games bodes for a relatively low scoring game in the replay. Fulham have home advantage and with 7 clean sheets in their last 11 home FA Cup ties, an upset may well be on the cards in this one. Rather than predict the winner of this match, I feel that any margin of victory will be hard fought and chances will be few and far between. Therefore I predict the match to have less than 2.5 goals.

Man United vs. Cambridge – Under 3.5 goals

Louis Van Gaal’s team will surely be expecting a comfortable passage through to the 5th round given their home advantage in this replay. Despite their fantastic defensive performance against the Red Devils at The Abbey Stadium, Cambridge did not prove such formidable opposition away to Luton Town, defeated 3-2 in League Two on Saturday. United have scored exactly 3 goals in 3 out of their last 4 home games and I expect them to beat Cambridge in this match by at least 2 goals. I expect Cambridge’s defence to stifle United for a while, like they did at the Abbey Stadium, however I expect United’s class to shine through on the vast Old Trafford pitch against a valiant but increasingly tired Cambridge side. Once United have their 2 goals I expect them to take their foot off the gas and save energy for their trip to West Ham on Sunday.  United’s previous 20 matches at Old Trafford have produced an average of 3 goals per game.

Sheffield United vs. Preston – Under 2.5 goals

The play-off placed League One rivals played out a tight 1-1 draw at Deepdale in the first tie and I expect this match to follow the same pattern. Both managers were vociferous in their post-match interviews, both stating that neither side wanted to be knocked out, despite a congested fixture list. I expect the replay to be a scrappy affair with the odd goal separating the sides after 90 minutes.  There have only been 9 goals scored in the last 7 meetings in all competitions between United and Preston. The last 20 Sheffield United home matches have produced an average of just 1.85 goals per game.

Bolton vs. Liverpool – Over 2.5 goals

Despite these teams playing out a 0-0 draw at Anfield, all the signs are pointing to a high scoring game in the replay. In the fixture at Liverpool, Bolton set up to contain and they did a magnificent job of it. They survived 24 attempts by a strong Liverpool line up. However, the replay will be different. Daniel Sturridge is back from injury and will surely play a part to build up his match fitness. In his brief cameo against West Ham on Saturday he managed to notch a goal just 12 minutes after being brought on. With the former Bolton loanee in their team, Liverpool look a complete team capable of scoring at will. I expect Liverpool to run out comfortable winners, scoring a few goals in the process to boost their confidence. Furthermore, the last 20 Liverpool away matches have produced an average of 3.8 goals with 15 out of these 20 producing more than 2.5 goals.
