Football League Accumulator for Saturday 03 August

With the English football league season getting underway this weekend, our writer Graeme Rankin has picked out a tasty 12/1 accumulator for Saturday 03 August that includes teams from both the Championship and League One. Below he explains his selections…

QPR v Sheffield Wednesday – QPR WIN

QPR are widely expected to bounce straight back up to the Premier League given the strength in depth in the squad, and can start the charge successfully against a Wednesday side who flirted with relegation last year. The Rs have just signed prolific striker Charlie Austin from Burnley for £5m and should have enough to beat the Owls in this opener at Loftus Road.

Millwall v Yeovil – MILLWALL WIN

New Millwall manager Steve Lomas will hope to get off to a good start and the Lions are a good bet to beat newly promoted Yeovil, whose sole objective will be to stay in the division against all odds. Lomas did a terrific job with St Johnstone in his first managerial role as he guided them into third in the SPL last year, and has already made what looks to be a brilliant signing in Scott McDonald from Middlesbrough, who is a proven goal scorer at Championship level. They should have enough to see off the men from Huish Park.

Peterborough v Swindon – PETERBOROUGH WIN

Peterborough found themselves relegated to League One last year despite racking up 54 points from 46 games. After a shambolic start to last season, their mid-to-end-of season form picked and they were unlucky to be relegated with that points total. Despite losing talisman Dwight Gayle, they should have enough quality at home to beat Swindon, who finished in the play-off places. The Robins form worsened after Paolo Di Canio left to be replaced by Kevin McDonald, who himself left the County Ground at the end of last season to leave Swindon currently managerless. The uncertainly coupled with Peterborough’s superior quality should see Posh win this one at home.

Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield – FOREST WIN

Forest are good value to beat Huddersfield at home in their opener on Saturday against The Terriers. Their form improved when Billy Davies came back to manage the club around halfway through the season, that even saw them make a late charge for the play-offs only to ultimately come up just short. Forest have made some good signings including Jamie Mackie, Jack Hobbs and Algerian winger Djamel Abdoun from Olympiakos and are a good outside bet for promotion this season. Huddersfield, having narrowly avoided relegation last season, are one of the favourites for the drop and will do well to get any result at the City Ground.
