Group E gets underway on Sunday and the second game sees France take on Honduras, we have free World Cup 2014 betting tips.

France are firm favourites to conquer Group E having been drawn against Switzerland, Ecuador and Honduras. In Group E’s opening match on Sunday 15thJune, France face a Honduras team who recently showed they will not be a ‘push over’ in Brazil by grinding out a 0-0 against England in their final friendly match before the tournament. Honduras are not there to simply make up the numbers and will be hoping to spoil the French party and cause a huge World Cup upset.

After a disastrous campaign in South Africa the French national team will be expected to significantly improve their on-field and off-field performances at this year’s World Cup under their 1998 World Cup winning captain and now manager, Didier Deschamps. The French had a distorted qualification campaign finishing second behind the current World Cup holders Spain.

They just squeezed through their European play-off match against Ukraine where they lost 2-0 in Kiev but managed a spirited performance in Paris to silence the boo boys and come out as 3-2 overall winners. Since then France have not looked back and are steam rolling into Brazil as one of the hottest teams in the world with important wins over the Netherlands and Norway but most recently demolishing Jamaica 8-0 in their final friendly before their opening match against Honduras.

However, the absence of Bayern Munich’s Frank Ribery due to injury will be a huge miss for the French side as he had been in scintillating form for Bayern Munich this season, helping them win a domestic double and he also came 3rd in this year’s Ballon’ Dor. Ribery’s international form had also been impressive, playing a pivotal role their qualification campaign by scoring 5 goals and getting 5 assists. Also the omission of Man City’s Samir Nasri from the squad has raised eyebrows across the world, especially since the Ribery injury, as he was one of the star players for the English Premier League and League Cup champions.

However, France will hope to rely on one of the hottest properties in Europe, Paul Pogba, to act as key midfield enforcer during World Cup their assault. Manchester United will be kicking themselves for letting Pogba go to Juventus as ever since he arrived in Turin he has become one of the best young players in the world, often keeping Italian midfielder Claudio Marchisio on the bench. It is no surprise why some of the biggest teams in Europe, including Real Madrid and Chelsea, want to purchase him for a fee believed to be around £50million. Pogba frequently scores breath-taking goals, breaks up play and provides his team with a handful of assists. He was the driving force behind a record breaking season for his domestic club Juventus. Many French supports will be expecting and hoping Pogba can replicate the form he showed for Juventus this season onto the international stage.

Paul Pogba to get FIFA man of the match against Honduras is odds of 5/1 at BetVictor

When Honduras qualified for the 2014 World Cup there was no surprise that a national party erupted. After qualification was sealed for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Government instructed overseas-based players not to return to their current club teams so they could join in with the celebrations. Honduras are ranked 33rd in the world and will be hoping to justify that rank by putting in three solid performances in Brazil this year. Notable Honduran players include Maynor Figueroa of Hull City and Stoke City’s Wilson Palacios who is the heart beat of an inexperienced team. Although on paper, questions arise as to whether this Honduran team has enough quality to compete but they are a very organised unit with two banks or four protecting their goal. The difficult weather conditions should also give them an advantage over their European participants in Group E, with the squad more acclimatised to the humidity and heat.

However, France are clear favourites in the match with the quality they possess likely to be too much over the 90 minutes for Honduras to prevent anything but a French victory. A French victory doesn’t give much value of odds at 4/11 with Bet365.

France will be expecting a good showing in their opening game and will be looking to set a benchmark for their fellow World Cup hopefuls. Over 3.5 goals in this game gives good value at 3/1 with Betfred as France are blessed with a plethora of attacking talent, including Oliver Giroud and Karim Benzema who have both enjoyed impressive domestic campaigns and will be looking to add to their goal record this season. Yohan Cabaye, Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba may also contribute to a high scoring win against Honduras. Also, in Honduras’s last 11 games, 6 of them have ended up with over 3.5 goals or more which shows they can be leaky in defence if facing a team that possesses the quality found in the French squad.
