France v Nigeria Betting Tips and Predictions

The World Cup excitement has just kept on flowing in the Knockout stages and we have free World Cup 2014 betting tips for Mondays first game.

France, the winners of Group E will meet Nigeria, the runners up in Group F on Monday in Brasillia. The World Cup 2014 betting odds are showing France are currently listed as favourites at 1/2 with Bet365 and a handful of other places, the draw is 3/1 with William Hill and Nigeria are 13/2 with Bet365.

France may be without Mamadou Sakho as the Liverpool defender is a doubt with a thigh injury, should he not be fit then Laurent Kosciellny will be a more than able replacement. France also have the advantage of having rested key players in their final group game, Debuchy, Valbuena, Evra and Cabaye all missed the game against Ecuador, that freshness will come in handy against a resilient Nigerian side.

France have been one of the best teams of the tournament in my opinion, they’ve played with swagger, moving the ball quickly and effectively, they look like they have an air of confidence about them. That said, they had a fairly easy group and will face a sterner test against a Nigeria team that many had expected to struggle to get out of the group.

Nigeria may welcome back Victor Moses who missed the last game against Argentina but will be without Michel Babatunde who fractured his arm in that game. Godfrey Oboabona may replace Yobo at the heart of the defence.

Nigeria put up a good fight against Argentina and will be hoping for a similar performance against France. In that game they sat back and defended well but were undone by Messi’s magic on two occasions and were sloppy defending a set piece. They will play on the counter attack again and look to utilise the pace of Musa out wide and the pace and power of Emineke up front.

France will be pleased to have what they believe will be one of the easier draws for the round of 16, I don’t think they’ll underestimate the African Cup of Nation’s Champions. This should be an entertaining game and I can see there being a few goals. Benzema will be keen to add to his tally and will see this as a good opportunity to aid his race for the golden boot.

Nigeria will fancy their chances of an upset but will have to produce a top level performance if they are to do so and will have to take the chances that they do get, France have conceded just two goals so far.

This looks like a game that will have goals in it, France have been impressive going forward but a bit suspect at the back against better teams so we could see goals fly at both ends.

If you are looking for a safer bet but still pretty good odds France to win is OK at 1/2, they were impressive throughout the group and you have to expect them to make the Quarter-Finals in 90 minutes with that form in mind.

Pretty similar to the over 2.5 goals bet, I also fancy both teams to score – Nigeria have looked better going forward since Iran held them in the first game and their performance against Argentina will give them confidence and France have got a few goals in them, at over evens with William Hill, this is worth some money.

Finally, anyone looking for value in the first goal scorer market Mathieu Valbuena has had a good World Cup for France so far and is far too big at 9/1 with Coral.
