Excited about this one as actually off to the event on Thursday/Friday and was going to do some live tweeting- but a broken phone (that has been sent off for refurb) has put pay to that! I’m back on my Nokia (circa 2009), and I can guarantee there will be no tweeting, facebook updates or alike from that bad boy. Enough of my nonsense, let’s get stuck into the event-

The Twenty-Ten course (as the name suggests) was built specifically to hold the Ryder Cup, a course frequently ranked in the top 100 in the world, it is a long and open layout with water coming into play on several holes. A combination of long Par 3’s and 4’s a reachable Par 4 and three potentially reachable Par 5’s make for an interesting test, the organisers also have the ability to move many of the tee’s to suit the conditions, should the wind get up. Looking at the form for this event it is important to note that several different courses have been used while preparation for the Ryder Cup was taking place on the Twenty-Ten, all courses are at the same venue so form can be considered prior to 2010 but just be wary. Current form will be important as players with all types of games look to have a chance on this course.
Conditions are much improved from last year where high winds were a problem for the player’s, this week looks to be fair weather, with winds no higher than 12 mph at any point during the four days.
Thorbjorn Olesen – 25/1 WIN
Nice to see the uber-talented Dane back in good form, 3 straight cuts made and returning to a venue he has finished 50th and 18th in the last 2 seasons, so progressive recent and course form.
Anders Hansen – 50/1 EW
Does not win as often as he should but Hansen is having another consistent season on the European tour, finished 2nd on this course back in 2011 and with conditions so awful here last year we can ignore his 2012 MC. Has been putting particularly well of late and if his irons are on song that could bode really well as the course should produce a fair few birdies this week in calm conditions.
Eddie Pepperell – 100/1 EW
The first of 2 rookies I have selected this week, an excellent ball striker whose best results to date have all been in the UK and Ireland, finished 28th last week when putting poorly. Should the flat stick warm up as it did in the Scottish Open there is nothing to stop him featuring here; and with the majority of the big European names still competing in the FedEx playoffs, it does make a first time winner more likely.
Alexander Levy – 150/1 EW
Another player whose form really improved once the European tour actually hit Europe! Not a consistent player- with both 3 top ten’s and 5 MC’s in his last 10 events, but hugely talented. Like Pepperell finished down the field last week due to a poor putting display. But is hitting the ball well and with 3 top 10’s recently the price tag looks a little big to me.
First Round Leader – Maximilian Kieffer 200/1 EW
Just found this price interesting, the young German is in fairly horrid form overall; BUT has a favourable mid-morning tee time (wind still minimal but the temperature should be on the up; so the ball travels a little further but without the wind blowing shots offline) and he is an excellent ball striker who should enjoy the test. At 200/1 a little EW action might be called for!
