Glorious Goodwood Day 2: Latest Odds and Best Betting Tips

Glorious Goodwood rolls on to Day 2 with the most anticipated clash of the week set to take place in the Sussex Stakes. Here we take a look at that race and the rest of the live Channel 4 action, providing some best bets for the day.

1.55 – UBS Goodwood Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 2m5f

E/W Selection: BROCKWELL @ 12/1 with Betfred

This race is likely to very stamina sapping given the ground conditions and those who handle the ground are the ones to concentrate on. The selection was a big price for the Northumberland Plate last time out after only a moderate performance on his first start over this distance at Haydock. He is bred to stay this trip and although some thought he had not improved for the step up in trip at Haydock he proved that the key to him is the ground; the ground was just too quick for him at Haydock but on softer ground at Newcastle he was unlucky not to win, making up a lot of ground from an unpromising position. We tipped him at 33/1 that day and though he is a shorter price here the conditions are again in his favour. The trip will be a stretch for all in this ground but he gives the impression that he can gallop all day and big chance of running well again off a similar mark.

2.30 – Neptune Investment Management Gordon Stakes (Group 3) 1m4f

E/W Selection: SECRET NUMBER @ 11/2 with Sky Bet

Wide open race with five or six with solid claims the selection is unraced over this trip and on this soft of ground. He was impressive earlier in the season at Meydan and bounced back to form at Royal Ascot last time out finishing just ahead of the re-opposing Elkaayed. He has stamina to prove but looked worth a try over this trip last time out and if he can settle early on, and the ground does not blunt his speed too much, he could be a threat to all.

3.05 – Qipco Sussex Stakes (Group 1) 1m

Selection: TORONADO @ 11/4 with Betfred

Dawn Approach has proved himself a high class horse with the only blot on his copybook being his Derby showing in which he was far too keen to do himself justice. He has proven unbeatable other than that thus far and overcame trouble in running to come out on top at Ascot, impressively just 17 days after his Derby flop.
TORONADO is the marginally bigger priced of the two in the market after being beaten twice by Dawn Approach but he does not have much to find on their Ascot run. An impressive winner of the Craven he disappointed in the 2000 Guineas but left that run behind him as expected. Always held in high regard he was touted as a Derby horse earlier in the season and I think he would be seen to better effect over 1m2f; he came to win the race at Ascot but did not quite have the acceleration to go past Dawn Approach. Having said that Richard Hughes will be aware of what he needs to do to beat Dawn Approach and at the prices I will still just about side with the Richard Hannon trained Toronado

3.40 – Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (Group 2) 7f

E/W Selection: OUTSTRIP @ 11/2 with Sky Bet

The selection was a good winner on debut at Newmarket, beating stablemate True Story who went on to impressively beat Expert who runs here today. Held in high regard, he is one who will definitely stay the trip having won over 7f already and represents a stable who have been going well in the last month or so. He faces a stern test in the shape of Toormoor for the in-form Hannon stable, a yard which has won this race for the last 3 years. His debut form has also worked out well and he deserves the utmost respect; at the prices however OUTSTRIP is the bet in the race
