The second day of Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday has plenty of decent racing on offer with the highlight the “Duel On The Downs” where Toronado and Kingman take each other on in the Sussex Stakes.

1.55 Goodwood

First up is the Goodwood Stakes which is a handicap over 2m5f and Mark Johnston will be confident in claiming three victories in a row when he fields MAID IN RIO (7/4 William Hill).  This horse has won 5 out of her last 6 races and she walloped a decent field last time out showing continued improvement.  It would be no surprise to see her run away with this but Ray Ward and Sohar are probably the best equipped to stop her. 

2.30 Goodwood

The second leg of our Lucky 15 tip is the Gordon Stakes for 3yo’s over 1m4f.  Somewhat is an interesting runner after finishing third in the Eclipse but he should find it hard to lead from pillar to post here.  Snow Sky and Scotland are worthy of respect but WINDSHEAR (15/2 SkyBet) is an improving type who looks to be the likeliest to come out on top here.  This colt by Hurricane Run has been unlucky in defeat on a number of occasions and came up against a top class horse in Hartnell last time out.  Despite the step-up in class this doesn’t look the toughest race and the Hannon/Hughes bandwagon should continue to roll.

3.05 Goodwood

The feature race of Day 2 looks to be a match between KINGMAN (4/9 bet365) and Toronado.  The latter won a below par Queen Anne but is high class horse and warrants plenty of respect, however the latter possess a potent turn of foot which should settle the matter.  The John Gosden trained runner has made light work of his last two races and would be unbeaten in six if it wasn’t for a late Kieran Fallon drive in the Guineas.

3.40 Goodwood

Our final Lucky 15 selection is AHLAN EMARATI (4/1 Coral) who should come out on top in the Vintage Stakes.  Both his Ascot and Curragh form looks better than anything else on offer in the race and he should be able to assert his dominance over this field.  The Hannon team have won this contest for the last four years and are represented by both Tupi and Dr No.  Highland Reel will also be a danger for Aidan O’Brien.
