Gold Cup 2015 Expert Betting Tips

Silviniaco Conti (10/3 Paddy Power) has been at the head of this market since winning the Betfair Chase at Haydock.  He followed that success with a repeat victory in the King George VI Chase when grinding the field into submission from flag fall.  That is undoubtedly the strongest form in the field bu,t for a horse who has failed to win on three occasions at Prestbury Park, including in two Gold Cups, he looks short enough.

Many Clouds (9/1 Paddy Power) set his stall out for this contest when winning the Hennessy in November.  He threw his hat firmly into the ring last time out when victorious in the Betbright Cup but what he actually achieved in beating a perennial underachiever in Smad Place and a non stayer in Dynaste in open for debate.  His form on quicker ground doesn't read all that well either which is another concern.

ROAD TO RICHES (10/1 Betfred) has really come of age since his demolition job in the Galway Plate at the end of July.  His Grade 1 wins this season have propelled him into a genuine each-way contender for the big race.  He showed grit and determination in abundance when winning the Lexus and, although the further step-up in trip is a slight doubt, he appears to be at the top of his game right now.

Holywell (10/1 Coral) is somewhat of a forgotten horse having been one of the early co-favourites after winning at Aintree last April.  He has won at the Festival the last two seasons with this meeting bringing out the best in him as it does with so many from Jonjo O’Neill stable.  His first two runs this season left plenty to be desired but he showed plenty of class when beating a small field on his latest run at Kelso.

Of the big outsiders, THE GIANT BOLSTER (33/1 bet365) may well outrun his price once again in the race.  He wasn't really suited by the way the race developed last time out when behind Many Clouds but the likely strong pace will make stamina a premium in the Gold Cup and that's his big strength.  I fully expect to see the hood return to accompany the visor and having finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in previous renewals he could be an each-way steal.

Despite the gap between Silviniaco Conti and the rest in the betting, this year’s renewal of the Cheltenham Gold Cup looks to be very competitive.  ROAD TO RICHES has really impressed as a young pretender and looks the most solid E/W option in the contest.  At a bigger price, THE GIANT BOLSTER is sure to run another gallant race and is another who offers value against the favourite.
