Golf Betting Tips- Crowne Plaza invitational 2014 – Continuing the weird start to the season, another first time winner pulled through for a victory on TOUR. Brendan Todd took home the hardware in Dallas but what’s even more surprising was Mike Weir. He was in contention all week at odds as high as 1000/1. Hopefully his game is finally back on track.
This week the TOUR barely needs to pack up its’ equipment as it only moves just down the road to Fort Worth. Colonial Country Club will be the site for this years Crowne Plaza Colonial Invitational. This is one of the longest running tournaments on TOUR and has been held at Colonial CC since 1946. The late Ben Hogan made his home here and won here 5 times. The tournament is also known as the place where Anika Sorenstam teed it up with the men but eventually missed the cut.
At just over 7200 yards and a par 70, Colonial is not a demanding track in terms of length off the tee as you will notice from some of the past winners. Colonial is a shot makers course. Probably why Hogan loved it so much. Players who can put it in play and put it on the green, will have a good showing here. Unlike last week, course form is truly important here at Colonial. I would be very surprised if a first time winner took the trophy this week. The last first time winner here was Sergio Garcia in 2001.
2013 – Boo Weekley (-14)
2012 – Zach Johnson (-12)
2011 – David Toms (-15)
2010 – Zach Johnson (-21)
2009 – Steve Stricker (-17)
Ball Strikers- The wind will always play a factor in Texas, but the forecast doesn’t call for too much wind as of this writing. We will want to look at GIR, Ball Striking, Driving Accuracy, Strokes Gained, and Par 4 Scoring this week. Let’s take a look at some contenders:
Zach Johnson to Win: 14/1 William Hill- Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.
Johnson has the best course form in the field. 2 wins in the last 4 years and 5 straight top 10’s. ZJ is a ball striker that can putt very well. He also ranks 8th in par 4 scoring.
Jim Furyk to Win: 16/1 Coral- Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!
Furyk is showing excellent form coming into this tournament. 4 top tens in his last 5 starts. The only thing missing is a win, which could come this week. Furyk ranks high in proximity to the hole so I expect many birdie opportunities for him here.
John Senden e/w: 50/1 Coral- Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!
Senden has always been a good ball striker. His putting has held him back but that has turned around this year as he ranks 31st in SGP. Senden has a win at another track built for ball strikers this year and I expect that to continue here.
Chris Kirk e/w: 40/1 Betfred- Open a new Betfred account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.
Kirk is always up and down it seems like but he’s been playing better as of late and almost never misses a cut. He had a 5th place finish here in 2012 and has finished 35th or better in every start here.
John Huh e/w: 50/1 Bet365- Open a new Bet365 account and receive a 100% deposit bonus up to £200!
Huh has only played here two times, but the results are outstanding. A 5th and an 11th place finish. He also finished 3rd in Hilton Head 5 weeks ago which is also a ball strikers haven. His putting is the only question mark.
Matt Every e/w: 80/1 Ladbrokes- Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!
Surprisingly high price here which constitutes the play. Every is the best putter on TOUR and ranks 21st in proximity to the hole. Finished 4th here last year and already has a win this year.
