Here are our golf betting tips for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba 2013, who will triumph this year at this event which is slowly gaining in stature on the PGA tour.

OHL Classic at Mayakoba : Bank On Howell In Mexico

Venue : El Camaleón GC, 6,923 yards, par 71. This Australian legend golfer Greg Norman’s creation, "The Chameleon" winds through three distinct landscapes – tropical jungle, dense mangroves and sand-lined oceanfront.  The PGA Tour made its first stop here in 2007 when El Camaleón made history by becoming the first golf course to host a PGA Tour event in Mexico, spending six years opposite the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship until getting its own autumn date this year.  In 2016, El Camaleón will serve as one of two hosts for the World Amateur Team Championships.

Last Five Winners

2012 – J.Huh

2011 – J.Wagner

2010 – C.Beckman

2009 – M.Wilson

2008 – B.Gay

Inside The Field : 132 golfers are expected to line up for the 2013 OHL Classic here at Mayakoba which includes 63 former PGA Tour winners, 12 Major winners and 4 World Golf Champions. Ryan Moore, a winner in Malaysia last month, joins defending champion John Huh to headline the event’s first edition to offer full FedEx Cup points status. With the event moving from the usual February slot as the backup event to the WGC Matchplay tournament this now looks a more attractive event to enter, the field includes all six former champions – Fred Funk, Brian Gay, Mark Wilson, Cameron Beckman, Johnson Wagner and John Huh.  Esteban Toledo, twice a winner on the Champions Tour, heads a contingent of four Mexican professionals.

72 HOLE RECORD :  264, BRIAN GAY ( 2008 )

18 HOLE RECORD :    61, ROLAND THATCHER ( 2008 )

Selections

I have picked out five golfers this week with each way chances, after looking through the stats of the Mayakoba Classic over the past five years, it becomes pretty clear that to win here you must have already tasted success on tour, only John Huh in the past five years has been the exception to this rule.  Also, course form doesn’t seem very relevant, so I have concentrated on players that have started the 2013/ 2014 season well and players who have won on tour previously.

Ricky Barnes   125/1 Each Way – William Hill –  Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Barnes has had a poor 2013 by his standards. Although, he has racked up six top-20 finishes without producing a top-10 at all this year.  Ricky is a much better player than these stats suggest.  Back in 2010 at the U.S. Open where he led for a long time, he collapsed with a fourth round 76.  If he can produce anything like the form he had in 2010, he must stand a chance of each way claims within this field.

Robert Garrigus    50/1 Each Way – Ladbrokes – Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, spend just £10 and get £30 in free bets!

I have put Robert in my selections list again, as I am confident that he likes playing around this time of year. As previously mentioned in last weeks article, Garrigus’ only win was in the Childrens Miracle Network Classic in 2010, which was held in the month of November.  Garrigus has amassed five top-20 finishes so far in 2013, with only one top-10 finish amongst them.  His most recent top-20 was at the Frys.com back in October.

Charles Howell III    25/1 Each Way – Sporting Bet – Open a new Sporting Bet account by clicking this link and get a ‘Risk Free’ £50 bet.

“Chucky Three Sticks” has had a great start to the 2013/2014 season, finishing 5th at the Shriners for Hospitals Tournament and finishing 7th at the CIMB Classic in Asia.  So far in 2013, Howell has had eight top-10 finishes, this looks like the type of tournament that could get him back in the winners enclosure for the first time in nearly 7 years.

Fredrik Jacobson 66/1 Each Way – Betfred-  Open a new Betfred account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Freddie has been on tour since 2004 where he has won only once, which was at the Travelers Championship back in 2011.  Jacobson is noted as being one of the best putters on tour and when the flat stick is hot, he can be a force to be reckoned with.  The Swede has notched up six top-20 finishes in 2013, including his most recent top-10 at the Shriners for Hospitals Tournament back in October.

Kevin Stadler   40/1 Each Way – Winner SPORTS – Open a new Winner account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

“Big Kev” is the son of the famous “Walrus”, Craig Stadler.  Kevin is yet to win on the PGA Tour but has come close on a few occasions.  Stadler has however, won 9 times throughout his professional career, most notably, at the Johnnie Walker Classic on the European Tour, which was co-sanctioned by the Asian and Australasian Tours.  Kevin will be confident after two top-20 finishes in recent weeks, once at the CIMB Classic in Asia and secondly at last weeks McGladrey Classic at Sea Island.
