Golf Betting Tips- The Scottish Open & John Deere Classic 2013

A successful change in strategy last week, moving to Place/Top 10 tips proved the correct decision when Brian Stuard took tied 6th at the Greenbrier when tipped to finish Top 10 at 22/1 J.  Not the time to switch tactic, so here are some Place/Top 10 tips for this week-

The Events

Firstly – The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open 2013

The venue at Castle Stuart is a short Par 72 measuring under 7,200 yards, there is plenty of room from the tee but the players finishing in the places last year ranked high in scrambling and GIR rather than being particularly long.  This suggests a good approach game and sharp chipping & putting should prevail this week, links form could also be a factor but with the weather set to be good all four days this will be less of a factor.

The weather looks to be generally good for the event with light winds, very warm on Thursday and Friday.

Selections

Robert-Jan Derksen – 30/1 Place AND 12/1 Top 10

A place and a Top 10 already this season, at two of the bigger European tour events to date this season, the Volvo China Open and the BMW international.  Has a tidy record at the event, finishing 24th and 14th in the last 2 seasons here and prices seem very fair, ranked a very impressive 6th in scrambling on tour this season, 74th in GIR and 66th in putts per round.

Lee Slattery – 30/1 Place AND 10/1 Top 10

7 Top 25 finishes this season, but just 1 top 10, has been consistent rather than spectacular but is clearly in fine all round form.  Ranked 22nd in scrambling, 81st in GIR and 52nd in putts per round on tour this season, would have finished higher last week in France but for a poor final round.

The John Deere Classic 2013

An event which has been dominated by Steve Stricker in recent years, winning 3 straight from 2009-2011 and finishing 5th last year behind winner Zach Johnson; players like Stricker and Johnson have performed consistently well here over the years.  Experienced players have won here over the last few years, but also some rookies/invitees have performed well here on debut (Luke Guthrie last year), so people at big prices have consistently placed here.  I have selected one player with a particularly good record here and another experienced campaigner who has performed well in recent weeks.

The weather looks to be generally good for the event with light winds of around 10 mph and warm weather.

Selections

Troy Matteson – 20/1 Place AND 9/1 Top 10

A very erratic player, but has two wins on the PGA tour (both Frys.com victories in 2006 and 2009), has just found a little form making his last two cuts, having missed several in a row.  Price is truly generous when you consider his excellent course form, 3 top 10’s in his last 6 outings here and two of them places, a good calculated risk here.

Chad Campbell – 33/1 Place AND 12/1 Top 10

Steady current form making his last 4 cuts straight, also a consistent performer at this venue with two top 20’s in the last 5 years, one of them a top 10 back in 2008.  Consistent ball striker whose putter is letting him down this season (ranked 168th in strokes gained putting this season), but always seems to perform on this course, let’s hope this week is the same.
