3.45 Ayr

The feature race at the Scottish track is a competitive Listed contest over the minimum trip for two-year-olds.

I was very impressed by AL FEREEJ (6/1 William Hill) last time out at York and she looks to have as good a claim as anyone in this race.  She’s been a progressive filly all season, and ran in some of the best two-year-old races, including the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.  It was her last performance that highlighted how much potential James Tate’s charge has, when staying on extremely well and battling it out to finish third, only beaten by a quarter of length by the winner.  If she can continue to progress, she could run out an easy winner.

The horse who won the aforementioned contest at York was Mind Of Madness and he he rates as the obvious and biggest danger here.  However, he has to give plenty of weight all around to the field, including a massive 8lbs to my selection and i’m hopeful that that will make all the difference.

4.40 Newbury

A middle-distance race over seven furlongs is the feature race at Newbury with BROWN SUGAR (16/1 Coral) likely to relish conditions.

Richard Hannon’s colt is a two time Group 3 winner who returns to action after a wide margin defeat at Ayr last time out.  Connections seem to think a change in trip will suit and I agree based on the effort he showed on his last run.  He looked outpaced early on over six furlongs and, with the extra furlong on offer here, this colt should be able to settle better enabling to use his turn of foot in the closing stages.  Another positive has to be Ryan Moore who takes the reigns.

Rerouted has ran two cracking races this season, including when finishing behind Trade Storm at Haydock, a horse who has gone on to claim a Group 1 prize overseas.  Despite this strong form, Rerouted’s latest run at York was a well below par effort and he may not have had enough time to recover from those exertions.
