The progressive Battalion (7/2 bet365) steps out of handicap company having landed three of his last four starts, including at Ripon on his seasonal return last month. This is also a step up in trip for William Haggas trained colt, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on. He looks a group race winner waiting to happen.

The lightly-raced Brass Ring (12/1 Betfred) continued last season’s form with a handicap victory at Lingfield last month, completing a hat-trick of victories.  His front running style meant he was prominent and ran well for a long way out before eventually fading into fifth. This is probably a slight drop in class and he looks interesting over the extra furlong.

Forgotten Voice (13/2 William Hill) won the Wolferton Handicap at the Ascot Royal Meeting.  That run came after a useful hurdling career and the Nicky Henderson trained horse then landed the Group 3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood.  Now aged nine, it remains to be seen how ready he is on his seasonal bow, but he has the form to figure prominently.

Litigant (16/1 SkyBet) remains an exciting prospect having earned his living with various successes in France in 2011.  After a lengthy break, the ex-Godolphin horse moved to the yard of Seamus Durack and after finishing second on debut at Kempton Park last autumn, has won three races on the trot including a valuable event at Lingfield.  This is a big step up in class but he remains an interesting prospect.

The seven year-old MOUNT ATHOS (10/3 William Hill) ran an excellent third to Fiorente in the Melbourne Cup last November and had a couple of spins around Meydan earlier this year.  If back on song, he represents a huge threat to all of his rivals.  He sets the standard on previous form, and has won over course and distance.

There was plenty of talk ahead of Sky Hunter (6/1 Coral) and his British debut at Sandown Park in April, with the colt having run third in last year’s Prix Du Jockey Club.  However in soft ground he ran disappointingly but he is entitled to another chance.

Biographer (16/1 Ladbrokes) had a good season in 2012 but found the going much tougher last year, with his best effort coming when finishing second to Caucus at Sandown back in July.  He needs to rediscover his form of old, and blinkers replace cheek pieces after his well beaten reappearance.

Of the others; Elkaayed (14/1 SkyBet) has to prove his stamina over this distance, First Mohican (16/1 Coral) needs to bounce back from an uninspiring season over the obstacles, and Cocktail Queen (33/1 Ladbrokes) looks to have plenty to do to win in this company.
