Horse Racing Betting Tips – 3.20pm Irish 2,000 Guineas At The Curragh

Horse racing betting tips for the 3.20pm Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Saturday.

The first Irish Classic of the season takes place at the Curragh with 14 runners lining up for this Group 1 contest over 1 mile. The head of the market is dominated by horses that ran in the English equivalent and trainers will be hoping to break Aidan O’Brien’s dominance of five victories in the last six years.

Ballydoyle and Aiden O’Brien aim to continue their dominance with War Command (7/1 William Hill) looking like their main runner on jockey bookings.  It was a poor performance at Newmarket from last year’s Dewhurst winner but there has been a trend especially in 2011 & 2012 of Ballydoyle horses disappointing at Newmarket then coming on to win here.  It took a while but Johann Strauss (33/1 SkyBet) got off the mark recently at Dundalk and both Michaelmas (28/1 bet365) and Great White Eagle (16/1 Ladbrokes) have been thought highly of in the past but all will need to improve to win this.

Of the others; Mandatario (50/1 SkyBet) is probably too big a price for Jim Bolger but may find the trip slightly too short to be seen to best effect.  Prince Of All (33/1 bet365) has done nothing wrong in winning up to Listed level and could be a surprise player at the finish.  Obliterator (16/1 Betfred) was very highly regarded by connections and could still live up to the hype, and his current price looks far too large.  Big Time (25/1 Ladbrokes) reappears after some good results against strong opposition and is definitely one to watch out for.  Mustajeeb (6/1 William Hill) won a good quality Group 3 at Leopardstown on his latest start and will be well fancied.

In terms of the main English challenge, Shifting Power (9/1 bet365) has been sent over and looks to have a good chance but I doubt he will be able to live with the race favourite – KINGMAN (8/11 Betfred).  I wasn’t personally a fan of the hype that surrounded this horse before the English Guineas but he has proven to be an extremely high class animal and, if repeating his recent run he will surely prove very difficult to beat.

Realistically if KINGMAN runs up to his best form he will have a cracking chance to make amends for his second place finish in the English Classic.  Understandably the price is very short but for with his credentials and form its perfectly understandable.  Of the others, each-way bets on Big Time and Obliterator could pay dividends.
