Horse racing betting tips for the 3.50pm Qipco 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The 1,000 Guineas is Sunday's feature, and represents a very competitive affair with a 17 runner field going to post for the 201st running of the first fillies’ Classic of the year.

Ihtimal (9/1 SkyBet) has evidently wintered well, winning a pair of Meydan races in February.  As Listed and a Group 3 contests respectively, they weren't races with anything like the depth here but she was impressive in both victories.  The latter win was over further and that is likely to be where her future lies but we know at least that she has trained on.

LIGHTNING THUNDER (33/1 Betfred) was disappointing in the Rockfel last Autumn when failing as an odds-on favourite and well backed to boot.  Previously she had gone down by a head to Miss France in the Oh So Sharp stakes but finds herself four times the price now.  Olly Stevens has been happy with her preparation and she could outrun her price.

Lucky Kristale (8/1 Ladbrokes) won a pair of Group 2 events last year at York and on the Newmarket July course.  She showed a smart turn of foot to put both races quickly to bed but she did look a speed horse and, although her pedigree suggests she could stay at least 7f, it remains a doubt stepping up a quarter of a mile.

MISS FRANCE (5/1 William Hill) on the other hand won over a mile as a juvenile beating future Marcel Boussac winner, Indonesienne into second.  She wasn't given a hard race of it on her seasonal debut having found trouble in running and French raiders have a excellent history in this race.

Rizeena (7/2 bet365) was incredibly adaptable as a 2 year-old, showing plenty of toe when winning the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot before showing the requisite stamina to finish second in the Fillies Mile.  Veteran trainer, Clive Brittain, has been very sweet on her chances, saying he thought Pebbles and Sayyedati would both win this race, which they did, and he thinks Rizeena will follow suit.  She can hardly have any stronger backing than that and no-one would deny Brittain another winner’s enclosure dance.

Tapestry (8/1 Coral) could conceivably have beaten Rizeena at the Curragh in September.  She was hampered close home and saddled with 1lb overweight, yet only went down by three quarters of a length.  She has been a noted drifter in the market in recent weeks though which may suggest that she is not as ready to go as some.

A competitive renewal with any number in here with cases that can be made for them.  Rizeena is a justified favourite with no trip concerns which is more than be said for Ihtimal or Lucky Kristale.  The vote however goes to the French trained MISS FRANCE who had little more than an exercise canter on her return but that should have put her spot on for this.  As previously stated, LIGHTNING THUNDER only went down by a head to the selection last year so is worth a little saver as well.
