The action gets under way with the Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes for 2yo’s over the flying 5f.  Cheerio Sweetie (11/4 bet365) and Charlie’s Star (4/1 Ladbrokes) are both well fancied for trainer David Evans and both bred for this trip.  The former has possibly the better form of the two after finishing a close second in the Scottish Brocklesby.  Both are drawn well and should have good chances.

Mukhmal (7/2 SkyBet) beat Charlie’s Star on debut and looked impressive while doing so.  I don’t see any reason why Charlie’s Star would turn that form around aside from maybe the wide draw which may well hinder Mukhmal.  Magical Memory (11/2 bet365) is well bred by Zebedee but the horse will have to make up a lot of ground on debut form behind Charlie’s Star.

The selection in the race is the aptly named ROUDEE (6/1 Ladbrokes), with his trainer Tom Dascombe taking aim with his best horses at this meeting each year.  His maiden form looks good, with the second and fourth winning,  and he has every chance providing he too can negate his poor draw.

1.45pm Tip – ROUDEE (WIN) (6/1 Ladbrokes)

Next up is the Cheshire Oaks which hasn’t been the best pointer in recent years towards the Oaks but still produces a decent horse in its own right.  Aidan O’Brien normally sends a top notch raiding party to Chester and Terrific (9/4 Betfred) comes here in good form despite being beaten by what is a top class horse in Dazzling last time.  The horse she finished ahead of last time came out and trounced her opposition in a Listed race so the form is rock solid.

Anipa (25/1 Coral) is an interesting type who has won twice this year but will need to improve on previous form, a comment which also applies to both Secret Pursuit (20/1 SkyBet) and Groovejet (33/1 Ladbrokes).  Brown Diamond (15/2 Betfred) has some good form in the book in two maidens but there are staying doubts on the Sire’s side of the pedigree.  Psychometry (13/2 SkyBet) got off the mark late last season at Kempton and looks a decent type to improve but there are better options on show.

Lady Tyne (7/1 Ladbrokes) won a decent maiden in testing ground last time out and is definitely the type to improve at 3.  However, the most interesting horse in the field looks to be BRIGHT APPROACH (9/4 William Hill).  The horse impressed on debut beating Be My Gal, a horse who went on to frank the form by winning a Listed contest.  There is plenty of speed and stamina on both sides of the pedigree and being sired by the Derby winner New Approach the signs are all there for a big run from the John Gosden trained filly.

2.15pm Tip – BRIGHT APPROACH (WIN) (NAP) (9/4 William Hill)

Following on from the Cheshire Oaks is the big race of the day – the Chester Cup, run over 2m 2f with 17 runners lining up.  Owner Marwan Koukash sends 5 horses to the race, all of them having live chances.  On the team, ANGEL GABRIEL (8/1 bet365) is probably the most likely to improve after a good victory at Ripon and should run a good race.  Suegioo (12/1 Coral) also should run a decent race in the same colours with Ryan Moore on board, but there are question marks over the trip.

Clowance Estate (16/1 Betfred) never fails to run a big race in good company and like most Roger Charlton horses is very lightly raced and should improve.  Mubaraza (5/1 William Hill) is the current favourite after finishing a neck in second to the aforementioned Angel Gabriel, and would definitely have a shout on previous form.  Shwaiman (16/1 SkyBet) is also another type likely to improve and is one to watch out for.

Communicator (10/1 Coral) is well fancied for Andrew Balding after some reasonable form on the all-weather while Glenard (9/1 SkyBet) would be in with a shout if it wasn’t for his unfavourable draw.  In a very tricky contest I'm happy to take two against the filed with WHITE NILE (16/1 Coral) as my second selection.  The horse has been improving of late and the booking of William Buick definitely catches the eye.  He is very lightly raced and is definitely likely to improve.  Hopefully he should be able to negate his poor draw by tucking in and getting a good position.

2.45pm Tips – ANGEL GABRIEL (E/W) (8/1 bet365)

                    – WHITE NILE (E/W) (16/1 Coral)

The last race as part of the Channel 4 coverage is the Stellar Group Handicap again over 5f.  Go Nani Go (11/2 Betfred) is drawn well in stall three and connections will hope he can double up after his latest win.  Caspian Prince (11/2 bet365) is also well fancied after a good win at Epsom but slipped up at Wolverhampton last time out and has to turn around the form with Top Boy (8/1 SkyBet) who has been progressing well and has a lovely draw in stall two.

Sir Maximillian (8/1 Ladbrokes) has been slowly progressing and is never far away, but he has to turn the form around with a few of these including Rusty Rocket (16/1 Coral) who runs off a low weight.  The selection for the race though is BALLISTA (7/1 William Hill).  He won a conditions race at Chester off a rating of 109 around this time last season and appears here off 101 which is his lowest rating since 2012.  His trainer will have him in fine fettle and coming out of stall 7 he should have very opportunity to get into a good position.

3.15pm Tip – BALLISTA (WIN) (7/1 William Hill)
