Horse racing betting tips for each race shown live on Channel 4 from Chester on Thursday.

The Channel 4 cameras cover another four races on the second day of the Chester May Festival with a pair of Group 3 contests the highlights of the day’s racing.  The Chester Vase in particular is an important race in relation to the Derby, with last year’s renewal claimed by Ruler Of The World before he went on to Epsom success.

Marcret (6/1 Betfred) really ought to go close in this race for trainer David O'Meara. The seven-year-old gelding has been slowly brought to the boil by O’Meara, with the horse finishing an encouraging third in a good race at Ripon last month.  Perhaps of greater significance is his record at Chester, where he has won twice – including the 2012 Huxley Stakes – from just three starts.  YEAGER (6/1 Ladbrokes) looks a progressive type who will be suited by the better ground on offer and the idiosyncratic track.  He goes well fresh, and ran an encouraging race first time out this season at Lingfield and will have come on from that run.  Sennockian Star (10/1 Coral) was a memorable winner last time out when jockey Silvestre De Sousa gave the horse a class ride.  This time, Joe Fanning takes the reins, with the step back in trip looking to be in his favour.  Donald McCain sends Gabrial The Great (11/1 William Hill) into the race with Graham Lee onboard, and any one of McCain’s runners on the flat is not to be sniffed at.

1.45pm Tip – YEAGER (WIN) (6/1 Ladbrokes)

TELESCOPE (11/4 Ladbrokes) will aim to return to winning ways in the Betfair Price Rush Huxley Stakes.  Sir Michael Stoute's much-vaunted colt was beaten on his seasonal comeback in the Gordon Richards Stakes on very soft ground at Sandown, but he’s sure to improve for the better ground.  He by no means faces an easy task as the winner of that race, Lady Cecil's Noble Mission (11/4 Coral), will once again take him on, although his task is made slightly harder by carrying a 3lb penalty.  Also set to take his chance is Roger Varian's Ektihaam (3/1 Betfred), not seen since running in the King George at Ascot last summer.  Luca Cumani's Danadana (10/1 bet365) and the Andrew Balding-trained Highland Knight (14/1 Coral) fought out the finish 12 months ago, with the former prevailing by three-quarters of a length, and are again in the line-up.  Richard Fahey runs Gabrial's Kaka (14/1 Betfred), who steps back up in trip.

2.15pm Tip – TELESCOPE (WIN)(NAP) (11/4 Ladbrokes)

A field of nine go to post in the Group 3 MBNA Chester Vase with five of those currently holding Investec Derby entries.  This mile and a half contest was won by Ruler Of The World en route to victory in last year's Derby and his trainer Aidan O'Brien has two representatives in the race this year with ORCHESTRA (4/1 William Hill), who finished second to Free Eagle on his debut, and Carlo Bugatti (7/2 Betfred), the mount of Joseph O'Brien, who was fourth in the Group Three Ballysax Stakes on his seasonal debut at Navan a month ago.  Orchestra looks like he has plenty of potential and, despite the fact that the trainer’s son has opted for the other stable runner, Orchestra looks the best bet in the race.  The other horses with Derby entries include Festival Theatre (20/1 Ladbrokes), Scotland (8/1 Betfred) and Seagull Star (11/2 bet365).  Another notable runner is the Mark Johnston trained Stars Over The Sea (14/1 Coral), who finished a close third in the Classic Trial at Epsom.

2.45pm Tip – ORCHESTRA (WIN) (4/1 William Hill)

There are two unbeaten horses in this field – Muteela (5/2 Coral) for Mark Johnston and Paul Hanagan, and Brian Noble (6/1 bet365) for Richard Fahey and Graham Lee.  The former was an impressive winner last time out at Beverley, and this filly looks open to plenty of improvement.  The latter has been looked after, with only one run under his belt, but this looks a step up from his other only run.  For his age, CAPTAIN BOB (5/1 William Hill) has already had a busy career, but his experience is sure to help.  Last time out he was eased near the finish after showing a great deal more than he did last season.  Connections seem to have figured this horse out, and for me seems to be an attractive improving type.  Our Gabrial (8/1 Coral) has done little wrong, but has had a busy career for a three year-old.

3.15pm Tip – CAPTAIN BOB (WIN) (5/1 William Hill)
