Horse racing tips for today

Horse racing betting tips for the 4.50pm race at Bellewstown today where our racing tipster previews the Golf Course Hurdle.

Bellewstown is not known for its Championship horses, in fact it is probably best known for “The Yellow Sam Betting Coup”, a race that saw Barney Curley become a household name.  However, every summer it hosts a number of interesting cards, both flat and National Hunt. Tonight sees an all National Hunt card which gives viewers a chance to brush up on their knowledge before the big Galway Festival at the end of July.

The opening race is a 2m 4f conditions hurdle. There are only five runners, three of real note but are trained by none other than champion jumps trainer Willie Mullins, runner up to him for the past few years Gordon Elliott and the king of flat racing Aidan O’Brien who has relinquished his interest in the jumps scene over the past 18 months.

It is the O’Brien runner that makes the most appeal to me, second on his last two runs Mark Walsh can get the best out of the Galileo gelding. He was a good stayer on the flat, seen at his best with top of the ground conditions which he is sure to have at the County Meath track tomorrow.

Mullins runner Aminabad looked a nice type winning a maiden hurdle in Wexford but has been hugely disappointing since so is best avoided, while the Elliott runner Vercingetorix has some good form in the book the Dylan Thomas 4 year old has fallen short in these type of contests before.

Marchese Marconi won his maiden hurdle in Galway last year and may be destined for another win there this summer, but he has things to take care of in Bellewstown prior to then.
