Saturday’s horse racing value tips for the Channel 4 coverage at Ascot & Newmarket.
There is an action packed day of racing on Saturday, with competitive cards at both Ascot and Newmarket live on Channel 4.
The John Guest Bengough Stakes is a Group 3 contest over six furlongs, a trip that should be ideal for LUCKY KRISTALE (16/1 William Hill). Although George Margarson’s three-year-old had a solid juvenile campaign, winning two Group 2 contests, she has been unable to repeat that success this season. Nonetheless, this filly put in an excellent effort in the Sceptre Stakes last time out, finishing just four lengths behind Kiyoshi. The selection boasts an 80% strike-rate over six furlongs and, as she receives weight from each of her rivals, she could have be overlooked and could run well at a price.
Reckless Abandon is a former winner at the highest level and has ran two solid races this season after a long absence due to injury. If the Godolphin colt can rediscover his form of old then he will be a big threat.
The Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes over 1m for fillies and mares is the highlight of Saturday’s racing and was won by SKY LANTERN (8/1 Ladbrokes) last year, a horse who looks to have a good chance to repeat the victory. Richard Hannon’s filly was a top class three-year-old, finishing the season as a multiple Group 1 winner. She suffered an injury during the winter and that could well explain her poor efforts in her last two starts, finishing midfield behind Integral on both occasions. Nonetheless, excuses can be made as her reappearance came after long absence and she carried aplenty of condition and, on her second start, she encountered ground that was far too soft for her. Conditions look to be much more to here liking here and Richard Hughes is certain to give her a good ride.
There are a host of runners who could well contest the victory. Integral is a classy performer who claimed the Falmouth Stakes whilst Fintry was very impressive at Sandown Park last time out winning the Atalanta Stakes. Another who could well pose problems for the selection is Kiyoshi who won the Sceptre Stakes well in the first time blinkers and could well progress from that effort.
