2.40 Haydock

Prior to the Group 1 feature race we have the Group 3 Superior Mile.

Stepped up in class, SHORT SQUEEZE (3/1 Coral) represents in-form trainer Hugo Palmer and should run a solid race.  He looked impressive when winning a good handicap at York last month, weaving his way through the field and finishing like a train.  This doesn’t look like a huge step-up in class given his rivals and, with and easy course and distance victory already on the four-year-old’s record, he can repeat his earlier success.

Brendan Bracken makes the trip over for Irish trainer Ger Lyons and he looks the main threat, especially if he can repeat the form he showed when winning a Listed contest in August.

3.50 Haydock

Moving on to the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup and we have a competitive field of 18 runners lining up.

HOT STREAK (18/1 Coral) was a sprinter who was seriously talked about at the start of the season given his two-year-old campaign, however he has captured just one race success all season.  Nonetheless, that was at Haydock on a day where easy ground very much favoured his rivals.  Nonetheless, he was still able to show excellent ability to win.  He steps back up to six furlongs here and I believe that this is the perfect distance for the colt as he’s looked a little outpaced previously over 5f.  Considering his generous price and how highly he is though of by connections, it is worth chancing that Kevin Ryan’s charge will at least be amongst the places.

Clearly on what we’ve seen so far this year Sole Power looks the clear danger, however I am not convinced he will be seen to best effect here.  Yes, he is an exceptional sprinter however he is yet to win over six furlongs and it doesn’t make much sense why at the age of 7 he will break that trend.
