Horse racing value tips for Friday Day 3 of the St. Leger Festival at Doncaster.
We are just one day away from the final Classic of the season, the St Leger, however, before that, we have another action packed day ahead at Doncaster.
The Group 2 Doncaster Cup over 2m2f is always a competitive affair and I think that ANGEL GABRIAL (12/1 Ladbrokes) looks a runner who should be well within the mix. After a superb effort over today’s trip in the Chester Cup, Richard Fahey’s gelding followed up by winning the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle very easily. Since leaving handicap company, the selection has failed twice against better opposition, however he moves back up to 2m2f and, after looking outpaced on his last two outings, I think the further trip will very much suit.
Last years Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate is the main danger and ran well at Royal Ascot this year as well as last time out in the Lonsdale at York where the trip seemed to be on the sharp side.
We have a action packed Group 2 for 2yo fillies and I like the look of outsider BONNIE GREY (14/1 Coral) and her chances to finish within the placings. She is the most experienced horse in the field and, despite only winning once which was on debut, the selection has been in some tough fields. She put an eye-catching run in at Goodwood last time out and I think she will improve a lot from running on the stiff Sussex track.
Mark Johnston’s Muraaqaba is the clear threat and rightly so when easily winning a Group 3 last time out and the filly should relish the extra furlong on offer here.
2.40 – ANGEL GABRIAL (E/W)(NAP) (12/1 Ladbrokes)
3.15 – BONNIE GREY (E/W) (14/1 Coral)
