Kraft Nabisco Championship 2014 – Golf Betting Tips & Preview

It’s time to get into Major’s mode a full week before the Men’s opening major at the Masters, the ladies tee it up in the first major of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2014.  Nice to see that Sky Sports will be showing all 4 days live starting Thursday 03rd April; In-Bee Park is defending her title and she went on to win the all of the first 3 women’s majors last year, can she show that form again this year?

The Event

The Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hill Country Club provides the picturesque and challenging Par 72 course, measuring 6,700 yards it is one of the longer tracks played on the LPGA tour each season.  Played on the course every year, this is very much the Ladies version of the Masters; it means there are some trends we can use to our advantage when trying to pick out some value in market.  Each of the last few winners has ranked in the Top 10 of both greens in regulation and putting; in last year’s preview I highlighted that driving distance might be an advantage, although there are some longer holes here, accuracy and positioning both from the tee and on approach appear to be more important than power alone.

In-Bee Park will certainly be in the frame again this week, she ranks highly in the two key categories ranked above, but her putting has not been as incredible as it was last year this season to date (although still very good) so I am happy to leave her at a skinny 13/2.  I have selected players with plenty of course experience this week, much like the Masters, course knowledge does tend to be of significance.

Steady light winds of between 5-10 mph are expected over the four days, slight chance of rain on Thursday and Friday but then getting increasingly warm and sunny over the weekend.

Main picks

Karrie Webb– 16/1 Win – Ladbrokes – Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!

A resurgent Webb has been in fine form this season, 2 wins and 3rd place finish in her last 5 starts; she also has a fine record on this course, winning in 2000 and 2006 with two more top 5 finishes in the last 4 years.  Is in the Top 5 in putting average and Top 30 in GIR over the past 3 months, this in combination with her winning mentality and years of experience on the course make her a big threat this week.

Paula Creamer – 33/1 EW – Coral – Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!

Fair to say that Creamer has never truly performed on this course, she has a string of top 25 finishes, eight straight in her last eight appearances here.  The best of those performances was a 13th place finish last year suggesting she might be getting to grips with the course (she has had plenty of practice!);  two top 20’s in the last 2 weeks and a win and two third places in the 4 events prior to that.  Top 5 in putting average and 15th in GIR over the preceding 3 months; could this be Creamer’s year?

Michelle Wie – 40/1 EW –  Ladbrokes – Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!

The only one of my main selection who is NOT inside the top 5 of putting average over the past few months (ranked 31st), in contrast she is ranked No1 in GIR in that same period so earns her place in my selections through that excellent ball striking and significant course knowledge, 4 top 10’s here in her last 9 outings.  Carries fantastically consistent form into the event with 5 straight top 16 finishes; therefore carries an excellent EW threat this week at the very least.

Morgan Pressel – 66/1 EW – William Hill – Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Very happy with this price, a former winner here in 2007 and as usual is in the Top 5 in putting over the past 3 months, not as fine a ball striker as my other selections, but is excellent tactically so should be more than able to plot her way round the tricky layout then rely on her excellent putting to make her score.  In very solid recent form including two top 10’s in her last 5 events, might be the best value selection this week.

Top 10 Play

Caroline Masson- 14/1 – Ladbrokes – Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!

She let me down last week when I (optimistically) backed her EW at a huge 300/1 in the KIA classic (decent round 1 but shocking second round meant she missed cut), but I still think she is good value for top 10 this week.  13th here last year so has knowledge/liking of the course and despite that MC last week she was a fine 12th the week before, 14/1 seems more than fair to me.
