Liverpool v Tottenham Betting Tips and Predictions

This weekend features a 'Super Sunday' that can have huge implications over the race for the title and Champions League positions. Liverpool welcome Spurs to Anfield for the 16:00 PM kick off and we have some free football betting tips for you.

Looking to avenge their 5-0 humiliation at White Heart Lane, Spurs roll up to Merseyside hoping to put a serious dent in Liverpool's title challenge. The Reds are currently on a seven game winning streak after seeing off Cardiff last weekend and a spirited Sunderland side in midweek. The Black Cats' frustrated for long periods with their bus shaped 7-1-2 formation, but when Liverpool opened the scoring with yet another first half goal, they were forced to go on the attack which certainly made for a nervy finish for Brendon Rodgers' men. With the season approaching it's business end, this is likely to be a sign of the times at Anfield as the big boys show up.

Like their opponents, Spurs also won last weekend against Southampton, but they certainly made hard work of it. Going two goals down in the first half, Spurs showed a lot of the 'guts' that manager Tim Sherwood craved. However, Mauricio Pocettino hit the nail on the head in the post match interview, Southampton lost the game more than Tottenham won it. With three wins and three defeats in the last six, Spurs can ill afford to play with such inconsistency on Sunday.

Early prices have Liverpool as heavy 1/2 favourites, despite their imperious home form, this is probably too short to back outright. Despite their unpredictability, Spurs are still a very dangerous team. No one game them a chance to overturn a 3-1 deficit against Benfica in the Europa League, but they certainly came close. Best priced at 13/2, you'd have to go back a few years to see a similar figure, the draw on offer at 4/1 is fairly sizeable as well. Nonetheless, Tim Sherwood's men just don't score enough goals to warrant backing this weekend. Even if they manage a goal or two, Liverpool average nearly three goals a game at home, which is why a Liverpool win and both teams to score is where I see this going. Back this at 7/4 with Coral.

Something touched on earlier, Liverpool's record for first half goals this season is nothing short of extraordinary, as is their record for scoring first. Steven Gerrard's free kick midweek took the home team's percentage to 87% for opening the scoring at home. Combine this with Spurs' 40% ratio for scoring first in away games, you would expect the home team to notch first on Sunday. With this in mind, back Liverpool to be winning at half time and full time at 11/10 with William Hill and Luis Suarez to open the scoring with Betfred's 'DDHH' at 5/2.
