Tuesday sees the start of the Glorious Goodwood Festival and heralds the start of five days of superb racing. Day 1 gets the proceedings underway with good mixture of Group contests and Handicaps. With plenty of value on offer we’ve provided an each-way Lucky 15 tip.

1.55 Goodwood

The first race is a competitive handicap with last year’s winner – Viewpoint returning to defend his crown. Stable jockey Richard Hughes has deserted the horse however, in favour of Sea Shanty who looks to have a solid chance. Stormachion, Cameron Highland and Tha’ir are others to put on the shortlist but WIGMORE HALL (33/1 bet365) may have finally reached a workable handicap mark. He has won Group 1 races across the globe but has been in bad form of late and has plummeted down the weights. Now reunited with Jamie Spencer, successful on him on a number of occasions, he could run well at a big price.

2.30 Goodwood

Moving on to the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes over 5f for 2yo’s and, despite the presence of the odds-on shot Beacon, FAST ACT (16/1 William Hill) could be tough to beat. Beacon’s form is undoubtedly top class and he has the beating over most of the field but Fast Act ran a huge race in the Super Sprint at Newbury, showing showed good speed throughout. He should offer value against the favourite and looks likely to be in the mix.

3.05 Goodwood

The third leg of my Lucky 15 tip comes in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes where Garswood will be looking to win this race for a second year in a row. Despite that win, this year’s renewal looks to be a lot stronger and he may have trouble seeing off GREGORIAN (10/3 William Hill). The John Gosden mount comfortably won the Criterion Stakes before running a huge race when finishing third in a high class renewal of the July Cup. That form is well clear of anything on show and should be enough to see off market rivals Toormoor and Garswood.

3.40 Goodwood

The last of our Lucky 15 picks comes in the Summer Handicap over 1m6f where WHITE NILE (14/1 SkyBet) is the selection. He hasn’t been in the best of form recently but he’s got in here under a light weight and connections definitely feel he is good enough to win. Dangers will come from the highly touted Havana Cooler, Repeater, Continuum and Van Percy.
