Man City v Chelsea – Match Preview & Betting Tips

We're only one game in but there's already a crucial game on the horizon that has huge permutations on the Premier League table. Manchester City host Chelsea at 4pm on Sunday looking to open up a five point gap over last season's champions, the match is live on Sky Sports and here are some betting tips for the game

After being handed a tricky opening fixture away to Tony Pulis' West Brom, Manchester City made fairly light work of the affair and coasted to a 3-0 win thanks to goals from David Silva, Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany. In truth, City never really got out of third gear but took advantage of the hosts decision to play with two up top and the likes of David Silva gobbled up the extra space.

Opponents Chelsea didn't fare so well in their opening fixture after they were held at home to a 2-2 draw against an excellent Swansea side on the day. To compound matters, Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saw red for a reckless challenge on Bafetimbi Gomis and will be unavailable for the crunch tie against their rivals on Sunday.

Odds for the clash have Manchester City out as fairly clear favourites despite the fact they are playing the champions. City can be backed at a best price of 23/20 and Chelsea at odds as long as 14/5. As with. Any of these types of games, the draw is often a popular outcome and I can see this happening again on Sunday. Mourinho will be desperate not to fall five points behind City already, so I fully expect the blue bus formation to be rolled out in the second half, especially if Chelsea can pinch the lead.

Outright market – Draw –  5/2 with Bet365.

Moving over to the goalscoring market and Sergio Aguero was clearly given a rest from the start last week with a view to be fresh for this game. Last season's Golden Boot winner is really well-priced to score the opening goal of the match at 9/2, but I would be inclined to take a small hit and back him at 4/1 under Betfred's Double Delight & Hatrick Heaven* offer instead. The Argentine scored multiple times in games on numerous occasions last year so it is certainly worth the risk.

*Double Delight & Hatrick Heaven explained

Double Delight -If you player scored the first goal of the match and then goes on to score another, Fred will double your first goalscorer price!

Hatrick Heaven – If your player scores the first goal of the match and then goes on to score a hat-trick, Fred will treble your goalscorer price

Sergio Aguero – First Goalscorer – 4/1 Betfred

Finally, a longshot in the man of the match market. Nemanja Matic is likely to have a crucial role to play for Chelsea on Sunday. The Serbian international will be key in closing down the space for David Silva to operate and if Chelsea can pick up a positive result, he is bound to have a big say on matters. At terrific odds of 16/1, back Matic to pick up the man of the match award.

Man of the Match market – Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) – 16/1 Paddy Power
