Old Trafford

Come Saturday at 12.45pm the wait is over the Premier League is back as Spurs travel to Old Trafford to face Louis Van Gaal's Manchester United and Adam Page has selected his best bets for the opener.

Rather quietly Spurs have had an excellent transfer window. Much of the expensive detritus that came into the club in the wake of Bale's departure has been shipped out. Somehow someone not named Harry Redknapp was convinced to stump up serious money for Paulinho however a bizarre sell back fee to Hamburg earned them a healthy profit on Lewis Holtby. The exodus has been concluded by the departures of Capoue, Kaboul, Stambouli, Chiriches for an excess of £20 million.

Meanwhile Spurs have invested in defence bringing in Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Kieran Wimmer to improve a defensive unit that was dangerously porous last season.

Manchester United of course have had another high profile summer of transfer activity. Misfit Argentinian Angel Di Maria has gone to PSG just one season after breaking the British transfer record. Also gone is former star striker Robin Van Persie and full back Brazilian Raphael. To replace them United have opened the purse strings bringing in five first team players including, perhaps most crucially, central midfield duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Although Manchester United should win this game fairly comfortably a price of 8/13 is far too short. Even at home Manchester United cannot be backed at this price as this isn't the Alex Ferguson era anymore.

If the odds on the outright are too short then we need to look elsewhere to find some value. Any Pochettino team relies heavily on fitness levels and work rate to pull off the manager's pressing style. Watching Spurs against Real Madrid in Audi Cup the Londoners don't look to be anywhere near fully fit yet. As such it seems worth backing Manchester United strongly for the victory and they llook good value to win by three or more goals.

If betting on the winning margin doesn't interest you then it is worth taking a look at the match result and both teams to score market. Manchester to win and both teams to score looks a very appealing option.
