Neptune Novices’ Hurdle Expert Betting Tips

The market has been headed by Nichols Canyon since his impressive victory in the 2m2f Grade 1 Deloitte at Leopardstown in February.  He's now a dual winner at the top level over hurdles, and is the choice of Ruby Walsh for all-conquering stable of Willie Mullins.  Highly rated on the Flat, the only slight doubt about this horse is the going, as he does seem best on softer ground.

Mullins is also represented by OUTLANDER (4/1 bet365), who looked really classy when winning a 2m4f Grade 2 at Leopardstown in January.  He's shown a good cruising speed during his races, and that attribute will be a big positive in this contest.  He's five wins from seven career starts, and is fancied to go very close for Bryan Cooper.

Of the others, Windsor Park is talented, but has ground to make up on the front two in the market and also needs to improve his jumping.

Parlour Games attempts to break the curse of Challow Hurdle winners, who haven't won this race in 14 attempts.  He is not a typical representative of that trend though, as victors tend to be embryonic 3m chasers.  He is another with classy form from the level, but Flat horses have generally struggled in this race.

Vyta Du Roc and Ordo Ab Chao both look like they are stayers, and don't have the usual profile of a Neptune winner – but both have natural ability and can't be dismissed.

Ruby is probably going to dictate matters from the front on Nichols Canyon as there doesn't look to be much pace in the race at all.  The horse seemed to improve under grinding tactics at Leopardstown, and it's easy to think they'll try and apply the same game plan.  Something which should play into the hands of OUTLANDER, who will get a nice tow into the race before hopefully stamping his class in the final few furlongs.
