New Orleans Saints at New York Jets NFL Betting Tips

NFL betting tips: This weekend’s meeting between the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints is the first between the two sides since 2009 when the Saints prevailed at the Superdome en route to their eventual Super Bowl win.

The Saints beat the Bills convincingly this past week coming off their BYE, whilst the Jets were given a rude awakening on the road by the contending Cincinnati Bengals losing 49-9.

Despite their heavy defeat against the Bengals, the Jets defence still remains one of the best in the league with a front three of Harrison, Sheldon Richardson and Mohammed Wilkerson bringing relentless pressure to the Quarterback on an every down basis. Wilkerson leads the team with 7 sacks and had an interception against the Bengals. The Jets defensive front is particularly stout against the run, ranking 1st overall in the league at a paltry 77.9 rushing yards allowed per contest. The Jets secondary will have its hands full this Sunday against a passing offence that is third overall with the Saints rolling out talented receivers across the field.

On offence the Jets are far more flawed, with rookie Quarterback Geno Smith showcasing a very strong arm, but as always there are the growing pains that always accompany a rookie signal caller. Smith has already thrown 13 interceptions already in 8 games this season against only 8 touchdowns. Despite his propensity to turn the ball over, he does however lead the league in game winning drives, showing maturity beyond his years and great composure in high pressure situations. Smith has performed well despite the absence of his most talented receiver Santonio Holmes who has been out most of the season with a hamstring injury. The mid-season pickup of David Nelson has made up for the absence of Holmes as has the improved play of Jeff Cumberland and Jeremy Kerley who has picked up 20 first downs for the Jets this year.

Meanwhile, the Saints travel to New York as favourites, fresh off of a comfortable win over the Bills during which Drew Brees threw for 332 yards and 5 touchdowns. Brees comes into week 9 with the 3rd most passing yards in the league and showing no sign of slowing down as the season heads into its second half and that has to be considered in our weekend NFP betting tips. Superstar tight end Jimmy Graham returned to his usual form after not recording a single catch in the Saints first loss of the season in New England two weeks earlier, picking up two touchdown catches.

The key battle in this game will be between the Jets defence and the Saints other worldly receivers, namely Graham, Marquis Colston and the extrememly versatile running back Darren Sproles, who has developed into a very dangerous weapon out of the back field for the Saints averaging 52.3 receiving yards per game. Jets coach Rex Ryan is a former defensive co-ordinator and is known for devising very complicated defensive schemes and it will be up to him and his assistants to come up with a way to slow down one of the best offences in the league.

For our first New Orleans Saints at New York Jets Betting Tip you should back the Saints to win by 13-18 points at 6/1 (Bet365) which is very good value as the Saints will prove too much for an overmatched Jets secondary. Our second NFL betting tip will be the Saints to lead at both half time and full time at Evens (Paddy Power).
