Some are already saying that Villa’s task of staying up in an impossible one. Leicester City proved last season that miracles can happen, but do Aston Villa have the quality needed to dig themselves out if an almighty hole?

The sacking of Tim Sherwood, and the subsequent appointment of Remi Garde has had almost no effect of Villa’s form, and their performances have, if anything, got worse. 6 points from 16 games is relegation form if ever you saw it.

Villa’s main problem this season has been their inability to score goals. Letting Christian Benteke go to Liverpool and Fabien Delph to Man City has seen the goals virtually dry up, and I don't think any team has any fear when faced with Villa’s impotent attack.

There are almost no glimmers of hope that I can see for this Villa side. They lack quality, they lack leadership, and their confidence is at absolute rock bottom. Newcastle are on the up after impressive victories over Liverpool two weeks back, and Spurs last weekend. The effort and quality in the Magpies’ performances have dramatically improved of late, and they go into the clash with Villa as firm favourites.

Remi Garde faces an almighty challenge trying to get anything from the match at St James’ Park, but you just never know which Newcastle team is going to turn up. Given their improving performances lately, I firmly believe that Newcastle will have enough to see off Villa at teatime on Saturday.
