Blackburn v Liverpool Betting Preview

After a favourable home tie against lower league opposition, few would have predicted that Liverpool – on an excellent run at the time – would have turned out such a disappointing performance at Anfield a fortnight ago. In fairness, the Premier League side did lose Martin Skrtel early on in the match which certainly seemed to upset the team equilibrium and leave the crowd rather subdued in the process. Nevertheless, there was a distinct lack of urgency from the home side up until the last few minutes and Blackburn earned a thoroughly deserved reply.

However, form has dramatically tailed off for both sides since the opening clash. Liverpool have seen their Champions League aspirations go up in smoke after back to back defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal. Whilst the loss to United hinged heavily on Steven Gerrard's moment of madness, the 4-1 drubbing at the hands of The Gunners on Easter Weekend was exactly what Reds' performance on the day deserved.

Furthermore, poor form is not the only problem Brendon Rodgers now has to contend with. Liverpool currently have Steven Gerrard, Emre Can, and most importantly, Martin Skrtel suspended which is going to be a huge blow for the Blackburn v Liverpool match tonight. Up until the Arsenal match, Liverpool had not conceded in six away games, they then concede four in one game thus highlighting the importance of the Slovak international. Elsewhere, injuries are also causing Rodgers problems. Raheem Sterling is currently playing through the pain barrier with a foot injury and the trio of Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli are all struggling for fitness. This is as good a time as ever to play a cup match against Liverpool.

Opponents Blackburn have been in marginally better form that their Premier League visitors. They followed up their fine draw at Anfield with two wins on the trot, but they proceeded to lose their next two matches after that. However, the Lancashire side did record a morale boosting victory over Easter in a 3-0 triumph against Leeds United.

Manager Gary Bowyer does, however, have a similar plight to that of his opposing number. Rovers have a dire injury crisis at the moment, which was only compounded when Rudy Gestede limped off during the win over Leeds a couple of days ago. The Frenchman was a perpetual nuisance for the Reds at Anfield, and with the likes of Skrtel and Can not featuring, could have a field day against the unconvincing Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sahko. The French striker faces a late fitness test tonight, which for those sniffing a cup upset, is certainly something worth monitoring.

If the last game is anything to go by, it could be another frustrating affair for the Merseyside club. However, Rovers have seen off the likes of Stoke and Swansea at Ewood Park on their cup run, so they will certainly not fear their opponents, especially on their current form. Nevertheless for tonight’s Blackburn v Liverpool prediction, I still feel Premier League quality should shine through in the long term.

With odds of 4/6 offering huge risk, a bet on a draw at half time and Liverpool to win at full time is available at a far more rewarding 15/4 with Bet Victor for tonight’s first football tip.

Heading over to the goalscoring market and Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes scored last time out against Leeds, a goal that took his tally for the season to 17. The Scottish international has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Our next Blackburn v Liverpool betting tip is for Jordan Rhodes to score anytime at 31/10 with Ladbrokes.

Finally, for a bit of a punt in correct score prediction market. Since the match falls under Betfred's '1 a-piece' promotion, there could be an opportunity to back a scoreline on Wednesday especially where a 1-1 draw will refund your stake. A 3-1 Liverpool win is fetching a decent price of 14-1, and considering Blackburn have the highest percentage in the Championship for BTTS matches, might just have some legs come the end of the game.
